723093 2008-11-26 07:22:00 Hello everybody,
Haven't posted for a while but still reading forums regularly.

I am replacing my old PSU that came with case (Thermaltake Swing 450W).

It is supplying power to:
AsusTek PB5 mobo
IntelCore2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz
GSkill 2GB (2X1GB in dualchannel)
Seagate 1TB harddisk
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT silent
2X optical DVD writer drives
WinTV Nova-DT card

Am interested to her views on whether the Corsair VX450W ($120) is the best choice for my system. My main concern is noise level, then price.

Your thoughts please.

723094 2008-11-26 08:10:00 I'm thinking 450W is borderline for your system and would recommend at least 500W.

I have myself an Antec Neopower (or NeoHE) 550W PSU, which is barely audible even at load. They come in the 500W version as well for around $135 on pricespy. A review found the series of PSUs to be extremely efficient and robust. The 550W reviewed actually withstood a 610W test no problem.

723095 2008-11-26 08:13:00 I have a Corsair 620HX 620W (ascent.co.nz) PSU and it's really quiet :)

I really recommend it!

723096 2008-11-26 08:27:00 +1 for the Corsair series, especially the modular ones Blam (54)
723097 2008-11-26 10:54:00 1. Get one that has a 120mm fan for quietness.

2. Get a modular psu to keep things tidy so you only have to have the cables that you need for a clutter free and clean case, also helps with airflow less cables blocking the flow of air in the case.

3. Better to get a more powerful psu then what you need right now so it lasts for future upgrades and you don't have to buy another psu again later on when you get a better graphics card, cpu, harddrives,do a new rebuild etc.Do it once do it right kind of thing.:)

Enermax psu's have allways been good for me.:)

Make sure you get a well known good brand psu and not a cheap generic no good one and stay away from the brands that get thrown into pc case's cheap and nasty.

Dont go cheap on a psu when it powers your $500.00+ graphics card,cpu,harddrives-with all your movies, music, games etc.,and all the things that are important to a no good generic cheap psu.:2cents:

723102 2008-11-27 05:36:00 Thank you all for your advice, and thanks Solmiester for your generous offer.
However I need one as soon as possible and after reading the posts and numerous reviews, I picked up the Corsair 620HX for $153 from C1Shopping when I was in Orcland today. Cheers.
