722910 2008-11-25 17:39:00 If someone put an old but legit copy of XP (like one of the first releases about 2002) on to a box then activated etc, would MS auto update put everything on including service patches to bring it up to date and if so about how big would the download be ? kjaada (253)
722911 2008-11-25 18:49:00 It'll probably be easier getting the updates manually then installing them.

Or use something like Nlite and slipstreaming all of them, then burning it to cd

It''ll be something like 350 - 370 mb at least. Since SP3 alone, is 316 mb

Altho I think its 66 mb if you use Windowsupdate (for SP3), so maybe around 90-100mb ?

For all of the updates

722914 2008-11-25 19:18:00 Yup SP3 includes SP1 and 2.

But it doesnt include all the updates from June/July ? (I think it is) to now (Nov)

722915 2008-11-25 19:24:00 SP3 doesn't contain SP1, as SP1 is required for installation, and SP2 is only recommended, but not required. pcuser42 (130)
722916 2008-11-25 19:25:00 Download AutoPatcher and update that way. A lot less reboots and a lot less hassle.

722917 2008-11-25 19:31:00 I just use Nlite and slipstream everything.

That way, if I format, once the install is finished, its up to date

So, if you slipstream SP3, then you dont need SP1 or 2.

SP3 contains all previous updates including SP1, but (i'm guessing) some of the functionality changes made in SP1 are needed to be able to install SP3.
I have heard you can slipstream SP3 onto a XP disk with no SPs and it will work ok.

It does work, I've SS SP3 with all updates, and never had a prob with it.

Next thing I'll be doing, is a slipstreamed cd for XP Pro x64.

I would use Autopatcher, but I've already got most of the updates. No point getting them again
