722778 2008-11-25 04:15:00 Hello
I have an internet connection with Slingshot, and am having trouble setting up my network.

My physical setup is Internet > RTA1320 > WRT54G > PCs/wireless laptops

Internet works fine if I have my PC directly plugged in to the modem, but I cant seem to get the modem/router to talk nicely.

The RTA1320 is set up as 10.0.0.1, and DHCP is on, in the 10.0.0.x range.
The WRT54G is set up as 192.168.1.2, with DHCP on in the 192.168.1.x range

I followed this guide I found here:
www.ben.geek.nz

Everything is the same as in the guide, minus the custom firmware (my linksys doesn't support Tomato), yet it doesn't seem to work.

I have tried bridging, but I couldn't figure it out. (The linksys WRT54G doesn't seem to do PPPoA, which is where I get confused on what to do)

If anyone has any ideas on how to make the Linksys do the routing, and the Dynalink do the.. uh, 'modeming' I would appreciate some advice! Its doing my head in..

Thanks

722779 2008-11-25 04:31:00 Basically set the "WAN / Internet" port on the Linksys to DHCP :)

If you really want a custom firmware (Recommended), it *will* support DD-WRT, I know, Ive got it working on my WRT54G v5 ;)

722780 2008-11-25 04:52:00 Basically set the "WAN / Internet" port on the Linksys to DHCP :)
On the Linksys' basic setup page, the 'Internet Connection Type' is set to 'Automatic Configuration- DHCP'

All other settings are the same as in the link I posted, but it still doesn't seem to work..

Any other ideas?

I have no real need to change my firmware (so far!) that I know of..

722781 2008-11-25 05:15:00 Th eproblem may be similar to This thread here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) - a couple of days ago - have a look at posts 15 & 16, the same may apply/work. ( esp #16) wainuitech (129)
722782 2008-11-25 05:25:00 Allright, with much fiddling around and re-reading things and resetting stuff up, looks like I got it going.

Thanks for your help and suggestions!

722783 2008-11-25 10:21:00 Any idea what sorted it? Did you try plugging the router into the LAN port instead of the WAN port?

Putting them both on the same IP range can help simplify things sometimes too :)

Of course, there's generally not a real *need* to change the firmware, its just fun if you enjoy tinkering. I sure do :D

BTW - Welcome to PressF1!

722784 2008-11-25 11:55:00 Well I had previously got it working by just plugging the Dynalink into one of the 4 ethernet ports on the Linksys, and using the Linksys as a switch, but I didn't want the Dynalink doing the routing.

I reset everything to factory defaults, re plugged all the cables in and followed that website again, and this time it seemed to work, no idea why it didn't work the first time..
