I just been searching the net how to set up broadband, I arn't opening the box until Christmas Day morning :) I have visited sites and they seem to say refer to your modem's instructions and these are the settings? From the sounds of it, it s a bit more individual than a dialup modem installation . Would I stuff it up:illogical I just saw that clip on TV and my broadband speed has got slower since you supposedly unleashed it whats going on? For most customers, the launch of maximum speed broadband plans means the fastest speed they can get on their line should increase . But, for a small number of customers, the change may actually slow their connection speeds down . Unfortunately, we can't avoid this - it's a result of the way DSL technology works . Faster speeds cause more interference on phone lines and this, in turn, can result in slower speeds or degraded performance, particularly for people who live a long way from their phone exchange * Well what are you going to do about it? * So I don't get a refund? * How many customers are in my position? * What's Telecom doing to sort this out? Well what are you going to do about it? There are a number of reasons why your connection might not be performing to your expectations including the distance you are from the nearest phone exchange . As is the case with most broadband connections, yours will not always reach its maximum connection speed and the speed will also vary over time, particularly during busy times . If you use one of Xtra's flat-rate plans, we might have reduced your connection to dial-up speeds if you have used more than your monthly data allowance . You can check your monthly usage at www . xtra . co . nz/usagemeter . Please note the usage meter does not show your usage in real time . It is updated approximately every hour and, under normal conditions, will accurately reflect usage up to 2 hours earlier . However, in some circumstances, such as when there are large numbers of users on the internet, it can sometimes take longer for your usage meter to be updated, particularly at the end of your billing month . It is important that you take this into account when tracking your usage . Similarly, if you are using the Go Large Plan and you run a file-sharing application, we might also manage the speed of the application to minimise its impact on other customers particularly during busy periods, such as from 4pm to midnight . For more information on traffic management see www . xtra . co . nz/golarge For more information on why broadband speeds can vary, visit www . xtra . co . nz/speed So I don't get a refund? No . But you can choose to alter or cancel your service if you so desire . How many customers are in my position? We're monitoring it now, it looks like the on the ground experience is if anything better than what was initially estimated . Initial indications are that a small proportion of customers are experiencing a noticeable decline in broadband speeds . What's Telecom doing to sort this out? Telecom will be proactively contacting customers who cannot achieve the standard 256kbps broadband and discussing their options with them . Telecom is always investing in its network to assist with such issues . But unfortunately as previously stated speed degradation for some customers - generally those furthest from the exchange - is a side effect of delivering unconstrained or faster broadband speeds for the majority . |
