Nah . . wait a minute . . . it isn't Rowan Atkinson I am thinking of . . . it's Hugh Laurie, and he was on a BBC series that we are currently getting here in the US because of his "House" fame .

Laurie previously starred in a number of groundbreaking British television comedy series, including four seasons of "A Bit of Fry and Laurie," which he co-wrote for the BBC with Stephen Fry; three seasons of "Blackadder," (AHA! he WAS here too! . . ahem!) written by Richard Curtis and Ben Elton; and three seasons of "Saturday Live . " In addition, four seasons of "Jeeves and Wooster," based on the novels of P . G . Wodehouse, aired on PBS's "Masterpiece Theatre" from 1990-1995 .

Jeeves and Wooster is the one currently playing here .

On the big screen, Laurie was in the 20th Century Fox release "Flight of the Phoenix" opposite Dennis Quaid . (Wow! I didn't recognize him there and I have that movie ripped!) Other film credits include "Peter's Friends," directed and co-starring Kenneth Branagh; "Sense and Sensibility" with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet; "Cousin Bette" with Jessica Lange; "The Man in the Iron Mask"; "101 Dalmatians”; "Stuart Little"; and "Stuart Little 2" with Geena Davis .

On American television, Laurie portrayed Vincente Minnelli opposite Judy Davis in the network telefilm "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows . " He also appeared in "Tracey Takes On …" and "Friends . "

He has been around for a while . . . . . . interesting .

509084 2006-12-24 02:56:00 I am currently watching "The Flambards", another BBC series that takes place starting in 1901 in England. Concerning the advent of aircraft and WW-1 on the horizon, it's got a lot of good story lines and some fantastic flying sequences of fabric and wire kites with engines on them. SurferJoe46 (51)
509085 2006-12-24 03:11:00 The problem with House is that people now expect to have 3 or 4 fairly good looking doctors standing about with hands in pockets thinking about nothing but them 24 hours a day.... reality is more like 10 harried minutes every 2 days annie (6010)
509086 2006-12-24 03:31:00 ...hours of total boredom interlaced with moments of sheer terror...... SurferJoe46 (51)
509087 2006-12-24 03:36:00 What I don't get is that in every US doctor series on TV there are always 3, 4 or 5 doctors attending every patient. Imagine what our hospital system would cost if we had the same. Geeeeez dvm (6543)

I dunnow . . . I get a group rate I guess . . . the group being the flock of doctors and medical students that surround me when I visit a VA hospital here in the US .

My tax dollars at work and all that . . . but there are exceptions, and the inner city docs are stretched thin and run into the ground with "emergency" calls for people who have no primary medical insurance and use the ER as their family doctors .

The medical situation is horrible if one has no insurance, is illegally in the US on phony papers or does not speak English (que?) . These people don't get swarms of medical help . It's sad, but they are busting the chops of the medicos and then DEMAND treatment for which they have paid nothing .

Sorry to say it . . . and for this I am not overly proud . . . but the medical practice is pretty good for those who play by the rules and actually pay into and support the system instead of sucking it dry .

It's amazing that the medical buildings stand yet and haven't been turned into condos or parking lots . There's little money in private medical care .

OK . . . I got a little OT . . . . . .
