508998 2006-12-23 21:34:00 I'm planning to look for a new place to live in the new year, and one of the items high on my priorities will be VMC reception (the original 3G, not the broadband). Any idea how I could get a map of cell-site transmitters? I presume it would be the same sites as for phones, as you can get 3G phones.

I could of course ask Vodafone, but that's a last resort as I've found them terrifically unhelpful and uninformed in previous dealings (they wouldn't even send me a copy of an old Vodafone web page that I needed to prove a point to a reseller about deals that used to be on offer).

509000 2006-12-23 22:02:00 Appreciate your response, but I had seen that map. It's very "broad-brush" -- a useful way to rule out whole districts, but I'd like to be able to see where the transmitters are and calculate for myself where the "shadows" (that VF talk about in their disclaimer) are. I must be in one at the moment as I'm theoretically in the "primary" coverage area, but my card doesn't seem to know that.

At work I can actually see a transmitter not half a km away and reception is excellent (but I don't want to live in an industrial area!)

509001 2006-12-24 07:18:00 As far as I'm aware the exact locations of transmission sites are not common knowledge. I think your only solution will be to identify properties that you're interested in which fall within the broadly defined areas shown on Vodafone's coverage maps, and then physically visit the property and check the signal meter on your 3G phone if you have one. alasta (6652)
