508851 2006-12-23 02:26:00 Hi

I have a Sony DVD player model number DVP NS530. It has a zone 4 on the back which i guess means can only play zone 4 DVD's. I have however a large number of DVD's with "ALL" on them. When i try and play it plays them only in Black and white. Is there any way i can change the setting to play other zones? Or am i stuck with it!

Otherwise can someone recommend a DVD/ Video combo player that will work on all zones.

508852 2006-12-23 02:30:00 More likely your TV cant display a NSTC signal properly, Though if its recently modern it may have the ability to be switched over via a menu. Metla (12)
508853 2006-12-23 05:14:00 Im not sure what NSTC is.Its a fairly old TV..late 90's. It is connected up to Sky Digital at the moment, and plays that sweet as. farhorizonz (11650)
508854 2006-12-23 05:19:00 Me niether, I muffed it, Its actually NTSC and its the American (and other countries) standard for TV, Our is PAL.

When NTSC is played on a PAL set you end up with a black and white picture.

508858 2006-12-23 07:12:00 Zone-free dvd players exist too...that might be what you want. Or use DVD Shrink (no link there) as it will convert PAL to NTSC...at least it does for me...

I got a really neat copy of Germinal from Bulgaria in PAL, ripped it into my HDD and it runs there just happy...even the copies I made as zone-free play too on everything so far.

I am citing US laws about use of DVD's for self, not broadcast or sale or whatever...just proprietory use only.

508859 2006-12-23 07:33:00 Speaking of DVD backups. I see our laws are to be changed to allow the duplication of media for playback on different devices, Yet there is to be a 150 thousand dollar fine for spreading the information on how to make backups.

f-wits. Have they not heard of the internet?, You cant restrict information that is already in the hands of the public.

Hooray! NZ's gonna go International at last!

"Fair Use By Proxy" laws are a good thing and it's about time it became universal or international in scope.
