508468 2006-12-21 03:48:00 I've just had my windscreen replaced (under my full cover insurance policy), and I noticed that the finish of the black sealant (on the inside of the screen) is rough in places - oozing and bulging, rather than smoothed over. There's also a faint (but noticeable against the beige/cream interior) black smear on the inside left windscreen pillar. I'm a little disappointed, given that I've only had the car for 6 months, and it's not all old dunger by any means. Is this an acceptable standard for a windscreen repair? Or am I being unreasonable? Take it back. I took my 13 year old dunger back three times to get S & S Glass to fix it properly, and in the end they took it out completely and refitted it. Third time lucky!

First time they munged my wipers as well by standing the new screen on them, so they had to replace those too.

It is a structural element of the vehicle as well, so it has to fit properly and be correctly glued in place. It should look like a new car once finished, and smears anywhere are unacceptable.

Cheers

. . . . and it has to seal out the elements too . . . like water and (in season) snow and platypus droppings etc . . . .

What sort of Rhesus installer do they employ? That isn't fit for a girl scout troups' attempt to leave urethane glue over the dogleg (pillar to youse guys) and bubbles and peaks in the seal .

Tell them for me (US retired mechanic) that if they want, I can fly over at their expense and show them how to do it correctly . . . at their expense, of course!

I am available after the 3rd of January through to April 30th, as my agenda is wide open for that time period . :D

508473 2006-12-21 17:23:00 Thanks for that guys, you've confirmed my original thoughts.

I'll be phoning S&S today to let them know.

Cheers

508474 2006-12-21 20:39:00 I was lucky a couple of years ago. I was travelling on the open road at night and a bus came past me the other way a threw up a rock the size of a golf ball, it hit the windscreen right in the middle of the drivers side and left a crack over 50mm across. Took it down to S&S and they said it had to be replaced and would cost $350 (no windscreen insurance). When I got to work the Novus Instant windscreen repair guy was there doing a couple of our car's and I got him to look at mine and he said he could do it for $50 which he did. BTW I now have windscreen insurance.

508475 2006-12-21 20:42:00 Yeah, I was lucky like that once, except I hit a power pole and a parked car.

Only cost about 15 grand if I remember rightly.

508476 2006-12-21 20:44:00 ....And did I ever mention how I drove a truck into an 80 thousand dollar Merc on the Wellington motorway?

Pulled some funny faces that day.
