508056 2006-12-20 23:15:00 I think Xnet is one of the better ISPs round here - despite certain posts from certain individuals, I think most people using XNet would agree.

Recent example: I emailed them yesterday at 6.10pm to request a change of plan (from one of the old plans, to one of their new FLS plans), and they called me back at 6.20pm, to confirm the plant I wanted, the data package I wanted, and what sort of speed I would likely get. They also said that the change would kick in within a day or two. Going by past experiences with Xnet, I wouldn't be surprised if it was already upgraded by the time I get home tonight.

You can't change the fact (at least not yet) that the ADSL service is supplied by Telecom's infrastructure, so there are always going to be limits on speed. But you can choose who supplies you with the service, in particular arrangements for data, after sales service etc. IMHO, Xnet comes out tops for best data arrangements, and best sales and support service.

FLS came on stream less than 24 hours after the phone call. Did some tests at NZADSL, and it registers 4438bps or about 560KB/s This is pretty much the reported line speed in the router settings, and matches with the quoted attainable speed by Xnet. Tested P2P with a linux torrent, and it peaked at about 390KB/s.

I'm pretty happy with that, and especially happy with Xnet's service - yet again. :D

I would take a look at their linksys voip modems if you are going with xnet. I use VFX and very satisfied with the service. They are waiving the monthly fee ($11) until April '07 so good way to try it out for making cheaper calls.

Maybe I should reword it. You are provided a new Xnet number. Are there any (upcoming) legislations that allows a customer to not have a Telecom line charge and just have ADSL or not?

They tend to use intl phonecards Chi-Tel approx 4c (incl GST) a min.

508060 2006-12-21 00:46:00 Ok, looks like Xnet FAQ answered my question. Stupid telecom line is still compulsory but for some time away and hopefully it may be optional down the road ...... I have to think of it as they tend to use phonecards at 4c a min. The Xnet $11 fee .. pretty much equate the diff between a Telecom (without free local dialling and the one with free local dialling) arn't it? Nomad (952)
508061 2006-12-23 01:15:00 Wow, this is freaky . I got a letter and they said 21st I have connection, I only rang Xnet for application on 21st, now that is a fast 2 week connection . Thought Telecom would stuff them up ;) I think it would of been great if they could of sent me an email or phone call when it was done than waiting for letter and maybe that its billing cycle starts on the first day I access BB, would be more fair IMHO .

I have my Ascent wireless gears now but I gonna be a good boy and not open them . Christmas Day morning I will connect to BB :D

One thing I would suggest Xnet is when you do the application online, they record your voice on a call back for contract, I thought that they didn't need to go via the stage cos I could just rang them up, I thought they could just do it all online incl validation or on call back just say did you do this and this and this and this is what you chose and these are your details, then I say yes I confirm . The application was a bit lengthy on the phone . Bit like saying, did it online and they rang me up for a full telephone application that I had to redo .

Overall pretty good in my books .

Seasons Greetings .
