507927 2006-12-19 07:18:00 You can do a specific google search for royalty free images. There are whole image banks online that you can down load from.

Here is a list of some FREE stock image libraries
stock.xchange (http://www.sxc.hu/) (very, very good)
morgueFile (http://morguefile.com/)
Image*After (http://www.imageafter.com/) (textures, some photos)
vertx (http://textures.vertx.ca/) (textures)
PD Photo (http://pdphoto.org/)
Scanned Images, Engravings and Pictures From Old Books (http://www.fromoldbooks.org/)

Cheap royalty-free image sites starting from $1 per photo
Dreamstime (www.dreamstime.com) (free photo daily with registration)
iStockphoto (istockphoto.com) (free photo weekly with registration)
Fotolia (www.fotolia.com) (free photo daily with registration)

But beware of the many fake "free" sites where you can get images from. Beware too of some of the nefarious links you might click on the moment you use "free" in any search. Or so I've heard.

As Foxie said - assume all images are copyrighted unless otherwise stated - and they usually remain copyrighted even if they're released into the public domain for any use. A copyright holder can also withdraw their "free use" policy.

I have used the images from every site that I have mentioned above -- nothing malicious, promise! But Greg's right about the other fake sites.

Ah, I see. You don't look like a "water fish" in the group photo in one of the PCWorld magazines after the company is taken over by Fairfax :D

If the media publishes my photo on the newspaper without asking for my permission in the first place, do I have the right to sue them?

Cheers :)
