1432261	2017-02-27 00:46:00	Yeah that's the bit that struck me as odd also (and I'm a customer- so would have to re-sign a 2 year contract - I'm out of one at the moment - and get 1 yr netflix). I'd have though sign for a 2 year contract get 2 years netflix.	psycik (12851)

I'd have though sign for a 2 year contract get 2 years netflix. actually, sign up for a 2 year contract & its ONLY a 1 year free netflix and "and an early exit fee of $299, or $399 for Fibre plans" Really a terrible deal. Exit fee for existing customers. Are they insane ? How about service & pricing where customers dont want to leave instead :) these deals look more appealing to me "Other internet providers also offered incentives to sign up to some broadband plans, he said. 1432265	2017-03-01 19:29:00	The Commerce Commission recently changed things, these contracts where it's detrimental to the customer are not allowed anymore. So if you query them about this exit fee business, I bet they have an alternative.	pctek (84)

So if you query them about this exit fee business, I bet they have an alternative. Thanks, I never knew that. Had a look on the Com Commission site. Exit fees can only be used to cover actual costs. Not as a punishment or deterrent . Obviously Sparks termination fees are set at a level to be a deterrent , so therefore unenforceable. So Exit fees should never be more than what other ISPs charge for sign up costs on zero-contract signups (excluding any freebies they give you) Even if just to cover costs, it would obviously be at a pro rata amount, and cost to Spark would be zero for existing customers . Just another company ignoring NZ consumer law I guess.	1101 (13337)
1432267	2017-03-01 21:56:00	Spark will have paid Netflix so there is that cost to consider. I don't like exit fees or being tied into a contract myself, they are more of a deterrent to signing up than exiting from my point of view. Interesting that they announced free Netflix a few days before announcing the TiVo service is shutting down (That's still Spark yeah?) Spark seem a bit prone to changing their minds when it comes to streaming. First it was TiVo, then Lightbox, now Netflix which is a direct competitor to lightbox (which is not just NZ content as someone commented earlier). Be nice if they made up their minds and stuck to something, any one of these services could have been great if done right. On the other hand it is good to recognise when something isn't working. Currently I have; Lightbox free from spark - and watch it rarely Netflix that I pay for - and watch semi-often. Will not agree to a 2 year contract to save ~$180 Amazon Video half price for 6 months - played with it for a week and will cancel it if it doesn't get more content soon TiVo that I haven't been using for months but used to really like Which adds up to a lot of content for < $25 a month which is vastly better than what we had available in NZ not very long ago. Hopefully things will continue to improve. It would be really awesome if you could pay one provider for all this content and use one interface to watch it all, unfortunately that's unlikely to ever happen.	dugimodo (138)

TiVo is run by Hybrid services out of Ozz who waited until 5 years were up (GCA I suspect) to close the service here and in Ozz. In Ozz they are offering a sweetener of myaccount.mytivo.com.au Looks like a nice DVR . No such love here in NZ who always misses out on this stuff.	paulw (1826)
