1432141 2017-02-22 22:41:00 You can block the adverts from Avira anti-virus with a small program. Search for 'bgpkiller' on Google. Works well. mzee (3324)
1432142 2017-02-22 23:50:00 If only there was such a thing for Avast :badpc:

when you need a popup blocker for your AV, its really time to look at other AV options
I liked Avira when I was using it (years ago) . Has Avira really gotten that bad ?

Avira is very good, just that an advert would pop up now and again causing a distraction. There was registry entry for the earlier versions, but it no longer works. My current Avira was installed in December and combined with Malwarebytes they make a good team. I have become a Chromebook enthusiast. I got one for my granddaughter for school, so impressed that I got another for myself, an HP 11.6. The only thing I can't do is my websites as the software I use is not online. Unlike Windows there is no maintenance, no antivirus, no firewall, a solid state drive, bump proof, and the battery lasts up to 15 hours on a charge. No fan, no noise, no heat, dust proof.

I can't say i've ever seen an ad while running Avast - other than the one you get around license renewal time.
Maybe my adblocker nukes them or maybe I don't get any because I'm not running many of the modules (file & mail usually).

You are one of the few then.
Its a real issue , lots of Avast popups , they even resort to scareware tactics to try & sell the paid addons . Little better than malware
When a Avast update stuck addons into my browers, despite my specifically not ticking that option, was the last straw . I was getting lots of Avast popups for bogus Avast services & popup ads for paid AV .

just google "Avast Pop Up Ads" & see how many people are affected :badpc: :badpc:

1432146 2017-02-26 22:24:00 Its all to do with $$$$ Wouldn't be at all surprised if the Merger between Avast and AVG has something to do with it. Pop up ad's are the type of thing AVG is also hammering. wainuitech (129)
1432147 2017-03-25 08:51:00 Windows Defender its better than Avira antivirus. Windows Defender is the Microsoft Antivirus. since I'm using Windows Defender its very good Antivirus software never give me any problems working perfectly in windows 10 or 8 you will get it by default otherwise you can download from Microsoft sites its free and good Antivirus. 1432148 2017-03-25 22:28:00 yes I gave up on Avira, Avaast and AVG years ago.

They were all bloat ware and full of bugs.

I saw the light and use Defender and I also have a paid version of Malware Bytes.

No ads - no problems - just get on with my work.

1432149 2017-03-26 00:36:00 Got that right. I havent seen one that doesnt cause probs. And people use them.

I use defender as well, never had any probs. The less crap you install, the better

1432150 2017-03-26 02:53:00 I'm getting like Digby and Speedy. I removed Avast 2 weeks ago, and running Windows Defender. So neat and simple. But then I suppose more people could try Pro versions, if a least to remove ads (supposedly), and to ward of more infections (supposedly). kahawai chaser (3545)
