1433082 2017-03-22 02:18:00 You mean you'd like the debate closed because you're loosing.

Ever heard of not reading the thread if you find it offensive?

1. Nothing of that sort. Just that I think it is endless and seems to be repeating, repeating, and repeating all the same thing, over and over again. There's no win or lose here. Frankly, I dislike the Win 10's updating, too, that's why I am still using Win8.1 on my main PC.

2. Your second statement . ????

1433084 2017-03-22 06:43:00 My :2cents:..Wainui puts a HEAP of his own time and expertise in around here and helps an awful lot of people out for nothing in return - there's not a lot of places someone can go and get the quality advice that is normally given around here, and the way that (for example) BM is going on is just stupid. PF1 would be a far worse place without Wainui, and I'd suggest that if things keep going the way they are going that could well happen. IMO BM should zip it. There is just no pleasing some people.

....
:+1::+1: but of course it isn't going to happen some people never get the hint.

1433086 2017-03-22 09:07:00 No problems with W10. I turned off auto updates after the anniversary update, and haven't had any bother since. mzee (3324)

This.

I might turn updates back on to get the creators build (after its been beta tested by the masses) and then disable them again :)

Generally mine, this one included, download in the background while I'm doing other things and the only time I notice is when I shut down or restart and the OPTION to apply the updates is presented. I don't know or care how long they take to download.

And as for the other topic, I'm starting to suspect B.M. doesn't like windows 10 and prefers Linux. Anyone else picking up on this? :p
To make a vaguely related point, people talk about XP almost with reverence as the best and most stable OS MS ever released. They however are forgetting or weren't around to remember the nightmare many people had when it first launched. It had more problems than I can be bothered listing and it took MS quite some time to sort them all out.

Often it's really about people not liking any kind of forced change, every windows version has changed things that annoyed me at the time but then once I got used to them that annoyance fades. Going back to XP now after using 7,8,10 for so long it feels ancient and clumsy (Yes I still have XP licences around). When the change is voluntary - such as deciding to switch to an entirely different OS - we approach it differently and having to learn how to do things suddenly is not so bad because it's a choice we made and we don't go into it with expectations based on previous versions. My opinion anyway.

1433089 2017-03-22 21:41:00 dug does Linux have the same amount of updates as Windows?, just wondering.

Some people don't need all "the bells and whistles" that go into software, remember that term!, IBM and ICL back in the 1970's comes to mind, US over British made, US won as usual, fancy new chip over software, new chip won that one.

Two computers on W10 and the workhorse XP SP3, so we do try to keep up with the play.

1433090 2017-03-22 22:06:00 @Lurking Dunno, never compared the two. It doesn't seem to from my limited time with it though. The nicest thing is the ability to run a fully functional OS from the install media without installing anything.

There are pros and cons and it comes down to preference and what your requirements are. An awesome thing you can do with Linux - grab an old PC with No OS or HDD, Chuck a spare flash drive in a USB port and install Linux on it. Of course you can just boot from a Live disk or flash drive, but it's the ability to fully install the OS on a cheap removable drive that I'm impressed with.

Some versions of Windows 10 have the same thing, its called Windows to go. Used myself several times to show people what W10 looks like (when it first came out), just booted from the USB drive on their Computer. :) wainuitech (129)
