1431526 2017-02-04 00:00:00 Is it just me, or are the currently available New Zealand grown cherries, last year's produce that have been kept in cool storage?

The last lot I bought from NW two days ago, are like cardboard - hard and tasteless :(

Are we, the customer, being screwed by unscrupulous retailers?

You might have to change your Grocer !!.

Supermarkets, however, get them chilled.

Terrible idea, not to mention the price they charge anyway.

Local fruit shop had them for $7.49kg, the others $9.99kg. Lovely flavour, fat and juicy.

I went into Pak N Save today to get husband a beer mix. You have to walk through the vege section before you can escape down the aisle you want, and it shocked me the price they are charging for their fruit and veges.

For instance:
$5.99 for a watermelon, the cheap cherry place has watermelons for $1 each. Pak N Saves cherries were $12.99kg.

Pretty much everything was way more expensive.

We're getting golden peaches and cherries at the moment from that vege shop. Still have strawberries from our garden, and the passionfruit on our vine are not yet ready. My grapes (niagra) are a week off ready although the smallest individual grapes are edible now.
