724080 2008-11-29 03:45:00 When I want to run Checkdisk I go through the usual motions and then either switch off an then re-start, ot just click on restart.
Computer reboots but the screen does not switch on. The computer makes the usual chkdsk noises and after a couple of minutes the monitor comes on and I am in windows.
Also a program called FSINN will not show it's control panel on screen, even though it loads OK. I can get it on screan by starting it from within file manager.

I think the reason for this is because I have removed my No 1 monitor for repairs. I am currently using No2 monitor only. NVidia control panel has reverted to single monitor mode so I have no options there..

I suspect the positions are recorded in registry but haven't found them.

I am not overly worried about fixing this as I will have my other monitor back shortly. I would just like to know how to.

Thanks

724081 2008-11-29 19:41:00 Shouldn't make any difference at all but what happens if you plug this monitor into monitor 1s connector? pctek (84)

I did answer this, but for some reason it did not appear.Sory about that.
I did as you suggested but made no difference.

Strange that both you and Speedy both mention monitor. This problem only arose after I removed one monitor. But not immediately after. It didn't appear for a couple of days.
My video card ,a 9800 GX2, has two VDI connectors so it shouldn't matter how they are connected. I have removed both Viewsonic drivers and am running on default windows driver.
Another strange occurance that happened twice last week. The computer was just loading windows when I got a white flash on the screan and then nothing. Reboot was normal. The first time this happened it also altered my bios settings. The settings were changed to default. I noticed this immediately because the ASUS splash screen appeared on reboot.

I have inspected the internals and everything is connected and secure I paid special attention to the vid card , but it is secure and the clamps are locked.
On one occasion my mouse, keyboard and joystick all stopped working. I removed all usb connections and gave them a good talking to. Then put them back and they worked

The annoying thing is that I don't get same problems all the time. They come and go.

Anyway with a bit of luck my other monitor should be back tomorrow and will see if that fixes everything. Only taken Viewsonic 10 days to replace the back light.

BTW I have the Machine overclocked from 3.0 to 3.3. This has been fine for six months so I don't think this has anything to do with it

724083 2008-12-01 02:14:00 Hmm.
I'd be suspicious of the motherboard.........BIOS resetting, USB devices ceasing to work, etc.............

An $898.43 motherboard. Now you have got me worried. At least it's still under warranty.

Is there any quick easy check to verify m/b ?

724087 2008-12-01 21:29:00 All Fixed. With No 1 monitor returned and running, everything has come right.

For some reason it doesn't like just one monitor.

I wonder what next problem is going to be

Thanks to all helpers.
