723953 2008-11-28 07:20:00 This is another of my daft questions! I want to backup my photos from one drive to another (no funny filetypes) - just a straight mirror image of a folder on one drive to a folder of the same name on another drive . And I want to be able to backup each week - with incremental backups (ie it will scan the original folder and put the new files in the second folder on the second drive) .

I have looked at the options I have available - Acronis Home, the backup programmes included on the Seagate drives, and the Backup in Windows XP . All of these seem to have problems - some use different file formats (but perhaps what is inside is ok?) .

I tried to set up using the Seagate software on an older drive - Bounceback Express - and I had difficulty getting (or rather I failed altogether!) the data in the right folder - the programme insisted on setting up a new folder .

Perhaps I shouldn't do this on a Friday night . . . :(

Suggestions would be welcome . :)

723954 2008-11-28 07:28:00 Try Synctoy (www.microsoft.com)from MS - its free.

AND This site (www.pchell.com) even has detailed Pictures on how to use it.

723955 2008-11-28 07:39:00 xcopy will do this for you (with the following arguments).

xcopy [source-folder] [target-folder] /d /i /s /v /f /y /g

eg.
xcopy C:\myfolder E:\myfolderbackup /d /i /s /v /f /y /g

Place the command into a text file, call it "backup.bat", then you can schedule it with Scheduled Tasks.

723957 2008-11-28 19:25:00 Thanks for your replies . I'd forgotten about XCopy - used it years ago . I haven't tried Synctoy - although I know about it . Must look at it more closely .

I've now decided that I shouldn't do anything more complex than just turn my 'puter on on a Friday night . . . :( THe head isn't functioning terribly well . . .

Re-examined my new Seagate backup - the content is just fine (that is, from the new Drive software) . I'll just ignore Bouceback Express .

I got caught up in Telecom/Xtra problems too last night which didn't help . All is well this morning . :)
