723816 2008-11-28 05:27:00 Help:eek:

I purchased and installed a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 160GB external hard drive to transfer my data prior to my laptop being restored (via IT crew @ work). Since my lappy has been restored I can't access the data on my Maxtor.

I've been through the Seagate support thing and didn't get what I wanted.

Now, the hard drive is password protected. When I hook it up to the lappy, it is being recognised as another drive, but the Maxtor Manager Software isn't showing up on my desktop (probably deleted with the restoration). The software isn't on disc or anything, and is inside the hdd itself.

Does anyone know how I can reinstall the Maxtor Manager on my laptop?

Appreciate your help - Thanks...:badpc:

723817 2008-11-28 05:46:00 Hello there, if its just the software your after and its the drive type i'm thinking, this link might help

edit:-, it appears to try and do something to the drive itself and I certainly wouldn't want to suggest a course of action that results in data loss. here is the link for reference. At first glance it looks like the software to manage the drive but i am suspicious of Maxtor stuff after all the probs my Shared Storage 2 has given me.

723818 2008-11-28 06:16:00 Welcome to PF1 - According to the Maxtor / Seagate site (www.seagate.com ) the software for the OneTouch 4 Mini is actually on the drive.

Windows Users:
To launch the software installation process, connect and power on the drive and click the Launch.exe file in the main folder on the OneTouch 4 drive. The site linked above advices if the software has been erased, to contact Seagate by email - link provided and they should advice.

Just be careful with the linked software for the lite - it may be different to the mini.

723819 2008-11-28 06:18:00 Thanks for the quick response :banana

This won't affect my data on the Maxtor will it? I'm abit concerned because all my photos, music, files etc are on it. As it says Maxtor One Touch Lite, would it still be the same, even though mine says Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini?

Sorry, I'm pretty new to most of all this stuff anyway

Thanks again. :punk

:) Yip, that's correct, the software is inside the hdd. But I can't access the Maxtor Manager to launch anything. I've resent an email to Seagate Support, fingers crossed - Cheers...:clap

723821 2008-11-28 06:30:00 There may be another way to access it - what OS do you have XP or Vista ?

As it says Maxtor One Touch Lite, would it still be the same, even though mine says Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini? Thats why I mentioned be careful - It May be the same software, then again it may not.

723823 2008-11-28 06:57:00 Er....a good reason why you shouldn't use these sort of programs. Why didn't you just copy your data over via Windows Explorer? pctek (84)
723824 2008-11-28 07:15:00 Okay - Does This here (www.imagef1.net.nz) look like the interface of the software you had ?? wainuitech (129)
