Some people enjoy listening to the channels and/or going to the scenes. How do you think reporters find some of their news so fast

510453 2006-12-28 18:12:00 I see. I thought it was something dodgy. Greg (193)
510454 2006-12-28 20:07:00 DSE use to or still do put out a NZ Scanner Frequency Handbook. I have a 1995 edition.

Ditto. He or she might be a reporter, but how does that give them exclusive rights to tuning to the frequency of channel used by policemen and firemen?

Cheers :)

510456 2006-12-28 22:23:00 It is not illegal to listen to police and fire etc radio frequencys in NZ but it is illegal to tell anyone what you have heard. I don't think you would find reporters useing them for the purpose of imformation to report, but to tell them where an accident or fire etc has been or is.

510457 2006-12-28 23:24:00 My shortwave radio can in some cases tune older cordless telephones within a few hundred metres radius, buuut nobody has much to say that's interesting hehe. Can also hear trans-Tasman flights sometimes. But yes, as Trev said, passing on what you've heard is against the law. I think it's quite interesting to know what's going on around town. jermsie (6820)
