2008-01-31 20:17:00 | WE ARE GETTING NEW FREQUENCYS FOR FIRE,POLICE,AMBO . IN THE NEXT TWO MOUTH OR SO AND ALL RADIO ARE CHANGING WITH NEW ONE WITH SCRAMBLER ON THEM SO SCANNER CAN NOT PICK UP THE CHANNELS . :( :( Not existing scanners, but it will not take long for someone like DSE to import and sell ones that can . As I understand it the radios are changing from analogue to digital . I'm certain that some importers will already have orders in for digital scanners and there will be people around only too eager to buy them . But unless you are doing something naughty, I don't think that too many people will want to listen to the police for very long . Apart from the fact that the day to day stuff is not all that interesting, many of them sound a bit like the children from the CB band with words such as "Affirm" (the "a" pronounced as in "hay") and "roger . " What's wrong with a plain "yes"? It's all so silly . :groan: Ambulance, fire and aircraft sound much more concise and professional . My personal interest is aircraft, particularly when I can sit at the end of the runway and watch as well as listen . In most cases the services have many frequencies but only a few of those frequencies are used all the time . Check out the link that Graham L has on his post . Looks ok . 75 and 485 are, in most cases, linked and it might depend on your scanner or where you are as to which frequency is best for you . The link to nz scanners also looks good . They have the police codes which makes it a bit easier to understand what they mean . I don't think that these use codes to make life difficult for listeners on scanners, but to make themselves easily understood . I'm certain that you will enjoy your new hobby .

2008-02-01 00:25:00 | Mm, that's new to me too. I listen to Chch police on 75.73750MHz (from memory), that's channel one. And I've been to a few local callouts as well. One 1S, one 1M (I think, I don't really know), and one party with a few 1K's smashing up a car. The cops don't seem to mind too much, so long as you don't get too close, or cause any bother (although I was pinged once for walking past a cop while holding my scanner, he thought I was robbing places, searched my backpack and everything). | ubergeek85 (131) | |
2008-02-01 01:11:00 | (although I was pinged once for walking past a cop while holding my scanner, he thought I was robbing places, searched my backpack and everything). I'm quite certain that he had absolutely no right to search you without your consent (and why would you consent - "unless you have something to hide" they say - everybodyhas something to hide) or if they arrest you. Simply tell them politely, "no." I think that many of the police are aware that most people do not know their law and so they will do what they think that they can get away with. I recall hearing of the police being called to a domestic (1D) and they told the occupants that they were coming in like it or not. My understanding is that the only time they are able to come in uninvited is when they suspect there is drugs on the premises and not a domestic. Steve L: I do agree with you that some of their antics can be amusing. :D

2008-02-01 01:22:00 | I knew he had no right to search me without consent, but I had no problem with it anyway. And I was sorta scared you-know-what-less, 'cos he might have thought I had acted on content I had heard on the scanner (punishable with up to 2 years I think), and I had no evidence to the contrary. But you can hardly blame the cops for being heavy-handed in their tactics, I mean, what if, on every callout, they had to read a person their rights, ask if they can come in, and all those other rights criminals shouldn't have anyway. The system would be up you-know-what creek (mind you, there is a good argument that it already is there). To get anything done, the cops do have to be somewhat mean and nasty, and I don't hold that against them, it's their job. | ubergeek85 (131) | |
2008-03-18 22:14:00 | Hi there, its been a while since you put this up, but there will be others in the same vote as you todate. I went to www.nzscanners.org.nz on the left side, click chat rooms, it will request you to log in or register, click the register and fill in details. I have signed in for nothing that way...good luck.
