| 510319 | 2006-12-29 11:26:00 | I have no plans to buy it. XP does me quite ok and if I feel like a change I use linux sometimes (actually have to reinstall on another HD). Open source is a wonderful thing |

| 510321 | 2006-12-29 20:22:00 | There is a choice. Go linux or MAC In theory there is... in practice I'm not so sure. M$ will try to lock up various technologies so you are forced to stay with M$. Although my camera might work with Linux, it may not either. It has official Windows drivers, it doesn't have Linux drivers (although as I say, it MAY work with Linux). Mind you it may not work with Vista either. |

| 510323 | 2006-12-31 05:21:00 | Hmm, have anyone tried Vista yet? Can anyone tell me if they have auto login like Win XP? (Sorry, I know this is not the right topic but I can't seem to get the downloaded beta work and I'm too lazy to reinstall my whole PC if I don't like Vista because the whole PC contains more than 100GB of data. It'll take me whole day to install those softwares again) Much help is appreciated. I tried using Linux but a little dissapointment is no auto login because I want my computer start at midnight without anyone operating it just like fully auto thing. |

I don't really know what you mean, but do you want to run a process at midnight or something? Cron job? |

Of course you can do auto login, but anyway, cron jobs do it without logins needed. You could write a shell script that would start the gui, run your program then shutdown the pc again, all from a cronjob. :) |

| 510326 | 2006-12-31 08:56:00 | Thanks byte and DanielF, hmm, I have another think about Linux now but does Vista have this? It is so hard to move to another new OS since you've so many files. | PedalSlammer (8511) | ||
| 510327 | 2007-01-01 11:48:00 | Stick with Linux it will take you further and judging by all of the experienced Linux users on these forums I would say that there isn't anything that Vista can do that Linux can't do better - if you don't know how to do it ask and someone will show you. Vista is a bigger pig than XP with more lipstick. | winmacguy (3367) | ||
| 510328 | 2007-01-02 00:58:00 | There is a choice. Go linux or MAC not really. you have no choice if you are a gamer. and don't give me that rubbish that you can now have Windows on a Mac.. if you want a mac that can play upto-date games, you are looking at a CRAP load more dosh than a PC, then on top of that, you have to purchase the software. BootCamp etc... if your MAC has a spazz and decides not to work, you usually take it to a MAC technician...those guys charge through the NOSE!!!, they are few and far between and think its ok to charge you more than the average PC tech. Linux is usually a bit of an ask to find drivers for. not everyone supports it. And try and get the average PC user to jump to a Linux machine. |
