510888 2006-12-29 20:35:00 OK> . . I got yelled at for sending links to big stories from the US . . . so I guess I should stick with the stuff that isn't on the big sheets .

If anyone likes this local color from around where I live . . . let me know . . . otherwise I'll cease . . . .

This way youse guys can see the topography, some of the local residents and sights around the area . . OK?

Most of the links I'll send are from the Press Enterprize, a local paper from the Inland Empire . . . . . and it has some videos of local happenings .

This would be easier than trying to post vids on "ForNewZealandersToSee (ForNewZealandersToSee@groups . msn . com)" on Yahoo!, my page .

Here's a site to see: . pe . com/sharedcontent/VideoPlayer/videoPlayer . php?q=hemet" target="_blank">www . pe . com

. pe . com/sharedcontent/VideoPlayer/videoPlayer . php?q=hemet" target="_blank">www . pe . com

and in Idyllwild, where I fish in the local lakes: . pe . com/sharedcontent/VideoPlayer/videoPlayer . php?q=Idyllwild" target="_blank">www . pe . com only about 13 miles up the hill from me .

You'll see a large monolith rock abutement that is named Tahquitz", the name of an Indian maiden who was caste into stone by a very powerful Indian god and she still cries for her lover-boyfriend according to their legend . We can see this rock from Hemet/San Jacinto .

I was just up here yesterday (Dec 28th) and the snow is about 4 inches deep right now . Palm Springs is just over the ridge from Idyllwild and both towns see Mount San Jacinto from their areas .

The Palm Springs tramway goes from the base of Hwy 111 in Palm Springs outskirts to the top of Mount San Jacinto . I worked on the power station at the top of the tram . We loaded 800 series Bobcats into the tram and took them up for the job . We had to partially remove the old counterweights for a monolithic pour of new cement . The cement plant had to be disassembled and hauled to the top and re-assembled to mix the concrete on site . Here's a GEarth co-ordinate of the place:

33°44'24 . 01"N 116°43'04 . 98"W

Have fun for now and let me know if you find this interesting .
