724777 2008-12-01 22:25:00 Hey,

So I've been trying to set up WOL (wake-on-LAN) and its almost fully functional but just got one little hickup :)

Internally everything works fine! But over the Internet I cannot get my router (rta1320) to forward the magic packet to my internal broadcast address (192.168.1.255). Is there some setting or something that allows forwarding as broadcast? I cannot seem to find anything.

I know this is the problem because when the computer I'm trying to wake up is already turned on it receives the magic packets over the internet. When its already on I can set up a port forward to its IP address, since it has one :), but when its turned off I cannot get the broadcast to work.

Well hope this makes sense, thanks for your help.

724778 2008-12-01 22:45:00 Does the NIC support WOL, some PCI cards also have a wire that connects to the mobo for this to work. Rob99 (151)
724779 2008-12-01 22:54:00 Yea it does as it works internally fine. The only problem is with the RTA1320 not sending out broadcasts, I've narrowed it down to that. WarNox (8772)
724780 2008-12-01 23:09:00 First things first, try port-forwarding both ports 7 & 9, UDP.

Secondly, start with port-forwarding direct to a single PC, make sure that works fine, THEN try forwarding to the broadcast, as the RTA1320 may not support it :)

Good luck! Let us know how you go

I've tried forwarding port UDP:9 to a single PC, 192.168.1.150 -> the IP of the sleeping computer when awake :D and that works fine.

I know the computer receives the magic packet because the WOL: Magic Packet Sender has the ability to 'listen' for magic packets while the computer is on. And it receives them fine if there is a port forward to 192.168.1.150, but not if port forwarded to 192.168.1.255 -> broadcast IP.

I might try and email dynalink.

724782 2008-12-02 00:15:00 Yeah basically some routers wont let you forward to a broadcast unfortunately :( Chilling_Silence (9)
