Mr. Wetzyl told me that the mouseover effect of the images is not present in IE7 and FF2 but it works for Opera. Can someone please double-confirm this? Oh, the links are not functional yet; I am still working on the design.

Cheers :)

512895 2007-01-05 06:42:00 Not sure what mouseover effect you're talking about - can't see any mouseover effect in either FF2, or IE7.

The only mouseover I can see is for the text on the LHS.

Otherwise looks good.

512896 2007-01-05 07:31:00 Its working fine in firefox. Good design jermsie (6820)
512897 2007-01-05 07:48:00 Image Gallery doesn't necessarily need the photoshoped bit behind it. The mouse over buttons look good but only seem to be on 3 of the buttons. Otherwise I like the design. :) winmacguy (3367)
512898 2007-01-05 10:06:00 All the mouse overs on the buttons working here on FF2.0.0.1 but they did take a split second load / change to the blue buttons. CYaBro (73)

I was referring to the images in the horizontal navigation bar, as CyaBro has pointed out.

winmacguy, the "Image Gallery" words were created using GIMP, under logos (Frosty).

Thanks for all the comments so far, guys!

512900 2007-01-05 11:02:00 The design is quite good and just needs a little polishing :).

The first thing that I notice is that the header has two very obvious yellow lines that line up with those of the side bar, but the main navigation creates a gap in them. The user's eyes will start at the top left, track this line down and the user will be unlikely to properly look at the options available in the menu as it is similar to the background colour. I would suggest rearranging the header of the page so that there is a visual separation between header and page, not a flow right past the menu.

I also see you are using FrontPage. I seriously recommend learning to write HTML and javascript yourself as your results will be much better.

The mouseover scripts, which I presume were automatically generated, are excessively complicated. The mouseover events run in the context of the element moused over so you don't need to locate it through the DOM. You also need to preload your images so that they appear immediately. I prefer to use a script like this:

preloadList = [];

preloadImages = function() {
for (i = 0; i < preloadList.length; i++) {
image = preloadList[i];
img = new Image();
img.src = image;
}
}

preloadImage = function(src) {
preloadList.push(src);
}

Load this into the document and add the attribute onLoad="preloadImages();" to the body tag. You can then simply have images like this:

<img src="my_image.jpg" onMouseOver="this.src='my_image_hover.jpg';" onMouseOut="this.src='my_image.jpg';" />
<script>preloadImage('my_image_hover.jpg');</script>

You can put the preloadImage() call wherever you like. The preloaded images will be loaded after the rest of the page is done, allowing them to be loaded as soon as possible without slowing down the initial page load.

You did not read his post:

ps James... it'd probably be a good idea to 'preload' the alternative link images.
