511696 2007-01-01 13:38:00 Hi

My Parents have a garage/sleepout...Inside the garage there is a small hot water cylinder, which provides hot water for a washing machine and Tub, which is to the left of the HWC and to the right in the ensuite the shower
and then the handbasin.
The problem is when you turn on the shower and turn the mixer all the way to hot..the shower stops..you may get one or two dribbles but thats it..Nothing...Yet when you turn on the hot tap in the handbasin it is fine..good pressure etc...The other thing is that the HW going to the tub isn't that great
either.
So what could be the problem ?

511697 2007-01-01 16:04:00 If the hot water still flows (is capable of flowing, that is) in the handbasin (sink) when there's diminished water in the shower...then I suspect the mixer itself of being defective.

It appears the mixer is shutting off the water to the shower head...

511698 2007-01-01 20:38:00 Hiya wmoore - hows life in the old neighbourhood?

My husband says if your shower mixer is a feltonmix he can tell you how to fix it. If it isn't, what brand is it?

As for the tub what type is it - specifically what taps has it got? It could be that they are meant for mains pressure rather than low pressure systems.

Hi

Yes the mixer is a Feltonmix, the tub has 2 hot and 2 cold taps one set for the tub and the other set for the washing machine.

511701 2007-01-02 03:04:00 Does the hot water have it's own pressure reducer? I assume so, and that it is a Nefa or Ajax regulator. It sounds like the pressure is set a bit low. A Feltonmix will draw the hot water in by the flow of cold water which is why they are fairly tolerant of pressure changes in the supply. On full hot, there is no cold to draw the hot through, so all flow stops. if you can attach a hose to one of the hot taps and hold it up to see the "head" in the hot water supply you will quite likely find the hose stops flowing just about the same height as the Feltonmix. Just wind the pressure setting on the regulator up until you get the desired flow from the shower and the tub making sure not to go too far - hold the hose about 800mm below the top of the cylinder vent and increase the pressure until water just flows you should be fine.
