I've been accused of that... but I've been off the dating scene a while :o To get serious- with those cheapies I always think of the warranty, if it turns to poo just after the warranty you're not losing out much if you would have paid twice the price for an expensive one. Given that I paid far too much for that dog of a Philips DVD, I'd say buy the Transonic- it might surprise you by lasting the distance! |

Also ask what the return policy is - if you can return it if it does not have the features you want. I did see that it was only $329. Transonic is a cheap brand, one that we here do not like, but if you pay another $33 for a 3 yr warranty then maybe it would be worth it. |

| 511805 | 2007-04-12 09:44:00 | Another thing - do you know Warehouses "money back guarantee" isn't? Son bought a rubbish TV off them, it lasted a whole 3 months so I took it back for him and they said with all electronic items they reserve the right to repair not refund. I got his money back but only by making a huge fuss. |

I got his money back but only by making a huge fuss. Thanks for the clarification. I suspected something like that. Before I make an expensive purchase I ask at the service desk about the return policy on the item. Recently bought an AEG vacuum - a good deal and we are happy with how it works. When they told me that once a vacuum cleaner is used, it cannot be returned, I read the specs in the manual and inspected everything in the box (attachments, turbo head, filters) then decided it was worth it. Back to the Transonic DVD recorder. Its a good price, about half of decent brands although 80 GB but a friend of mine who has a 160 Gb Sony has over 5 months of recorded TV programs and it only takes up 60 Gb so far. $33 for an extended 3 yr warranty makes it appealing as long as the features are OK. |

| 511808 | 2007-04-14 03:51:00 | thanks for replies, Went down warehouse this morning & asked to have a look at the manual. It seems they do play DivX Avi files & a few more. It comes with a 2 year warranty, so Figured for that price I would get one.:) We have had 2 transonic TV's ,A 34" which died after 9 years & 21" which weve had for 11years & still have. We gave the 34" to the nephew & it cost him $150 to get fixed. It will probably take me 2 years to work out how to use all the features Cheers Steve |

| 511809 | 2007-04-14 06:24:00 | Glad you decided to get one of those, so you can tell us how it is. At $329 and with a 2 yr warranty it is 'inviting'. So let us know how you like it - thanks. |

| 511811 | 2007-04-19 05:00:00 | Warehouse policy, according to the Service Dept worker that I asked yesterday: items such as TV's and DVD recorders can be returned for a full refund within 7 days if it is in 'saleable' condition. After 7 days they will repair any faults for the first year (or longer if stated). I did notice that the 80 Gb Transonic DVD recorder is no longer $330 but back up to around $380. They also have 80 and 160 Gb Sanyos at good prices compared to Sony's etc but unlike the Transonic, the Sanyos did not have sockets for connecting a digital camera or USB. kiwisteve: not sure about NTSC. Steve Askew should know. BTW, last 3 posts made by 3 Steves. :) |
