511344 2007-01-11 23:19:00 And more power to you, Though the main weakness so far for the PS3 is how it runs games, Which is a pretty big whack for a well...a games machine that cost millions if not billions to develop.

The situation may well change as devs hone their skills, but the same can be said for the xbox360, which as far as I am aware has only ever had one core used by all releases so far.

So far the cell has proved nothing, even if it is of interest to programmers, untill such time that it lives upto the reported potential then its a bit of a bust.

511345 2007-01-11 23:34:00 Lamborghini have a reputation that is well established through a long line of products. The PS3 is only a few months old. A disclaimer that you haven't used it before making claims would at least be honest (see my first post for mine).

I'm going to completely disagree with you there, I wouldn't fell comfortable making the statement I made if it was based on having used a PS3, There is no way just using one would have shown me enough to say it was failing in a few areas, Not unless I had all the games released and a 360 with the same games (where available) to do a comparison, as well has the ability to gauge its performance running other applications.

But...bugger that, we have the internet and both Gamespot and IGN have run direct comparisons between the 2 systems and at this stage the PS3 hasn't been able to do what the xbox can. Plus we have international user feedback and testing via the great unwashed forums, My main call is www.futuremark.com Not often that biased opinions don't get shot down in flames over there.

511346 2007-01-12 11:27:00 Thank you for citing your source. It is as important to understand why people have a point of view as to know what it is. I found those two sites interesting reading.

The Gamespot graphics comparison is quite interesting. The lighting seems to be the biggest difference between the two platforms for the games shown. The Xbox seems to be in the lead on this front in most of the games they reviewed. It is worth bearing in mind that the games reviewed are all Xbox 360 games ported to the PS3. The first round of games actually designed for the PS3 should be out soon - it will be interesting to see whether anything changes. A port is never as well tuned as the original - again this is a matter of economics. I look forward to seeing what happens.

The only IGN comparison I can find only reprinted Microsoft's comparison sent to them. They actually say at the front that they expect the results to be slanted. Most of the stats given miss the point completely. "General processing power" is a nice way of excluding 90% of the Cell's processing power.

The most exciting thing for me is not how pretty you can make the graphics, but in what other ways we can extend gameplay. The Cell's superior processing capacity (double even by Microsoft's report, more when you actually understand the fundamental differences) combined with the PS3's hard drive make the difference in going beyond today's expectations and providing the potential for exciting new innovations. The Xbox 360 is just a gruntier version of the previous one with more thrown in the box and sold at a loss to try to take a bigger share of the market. The PS3 is actually something new.

511347 2007-01-12 11:37:00 Well, I hope you checked out the console forums at Futuremark, There is a lot there that goes over my head that will most probally be directly in line with your interests.

Though it seems that many state "facts" with no idea of what they are talking about, and are then shot down by others who also have no idea of what they are talking about..........Or not, seeing as I have no idea who is correct in many cases with researching.....

511348 2007-01-12 12:30:00 now i find the xbox and 360 controllers damn uncomfortable, unlike the PS and Wii controllers.

the PS3 is higher spec'd than the 360. no argument, but it is how you use it, and so far neither have been fully utilised. it is a shame sony have made such an expensive system, and ruined the lanch completely.

i still, however, prefer pc gaming. it is definetly better for fps, and you can buy adapters for console controllers for racing games. the pc graphics are constantly improving, and slow loading times can be easily fixed. i don't see the logic in buying repackaged pc parts frozen in time, as is the case with both xboxes. the wii is novel and good for friends/drunken tennis matches but not much more once the novelty wears off, and ps3 is buggered and too expensive at present

you can already buy bluray drives for your pc, but the price makes ps3 a bargain

oh, and i assume you all heard of people being SHOT for a ps3 at launch in the US right?

now the REAL reason ps3 was a failure (cad-comic.com)

511351 2007-01-12 14:21:00 I think the 360 controller is very comfortable, I can play for hours. M$ has learnt its leasons from the original.

In saying that I havnt tried either the Wi /ps3 controller.

the ps3 controller is just the old ps1/ps2 dualshock controller with a six axis tilt sensor in it rather than vibrator, won a couple of awards for it, we all know they were trying to compete with nintendo by copying them, again.

i find i can play for hours with anything provided it doesn't draw blood.... actually the blood acts as lube after a while....
