511324 2007-01-06 23:56:00 Since the Xbox 360 doesn't have a hard drive by default

The Majoirty of people purchare the premium xbox 360 package anyway, because the price is not to much higher then the Core box set.
Game developers can't assume Xbox 360 has a HDD?
Why Not?
(1) By making games that require the HDD, people would have to buy the HDD ---> More Revanue, which we assume is what microsoft wants.
(2) Do PC game develops not release a game because everyone doesnt have the Specs?, no, if people want to play the game they will upgrade their machine.

Average Consumer doesnt care about how many cores the unit has, they care about price and the games.
1) PS3 is more expensive then the Xbox 360 + HDD + HD add one, by about $400, as well as being around 3x the price of the Wii.
2) Xbox 360 already has around 100 360 games on it.... PS3 hasnt even been launhed yet.

PC gamers are constantly upgrading to take advantage of the latest technology. Upgrades for consoles (until now) haven't had any major effect on the actual games - the upgrades were things like wireless controllers etc.

PC games are designed to work on low(ish) spec computers, but also be able to take advantage of any extra power available. Depending on what the developers want to do with the hard drive, we might see the same thing happen with the 360.

Most Xbox 360 games are not developed by Microsoft. Microsoft has a quality assurance program for branding reasons and provides development tools (for a fee). They do not, however, make game design decisions.

Game designers must play a statistical game. The more stringent the requirements of your game, the more of your potential market you eliminate as customers. For consoles this is fairly black and white - there is a minimum set of specifications that you can rely on people having. If you require the 'premium' version of a product, your customer uptake could be as much as halved. Profit margins in game design are very tight, meaning that in real life games must be designed to sell as many copies as possible. A game can only afford to support additional features if enough people will be able to use them to make the investment pay off.

The PS3 has been launched overseas, just not yet officially here. In case you got the completely wrong idea about my post, I was saying what I would choose. I am not an average consumer. You may be right - the PS3 could flop. I was only talking about the technical specs, where the PS3 is quite clearly in the lead.

511329 2007-01-07 10:34:00 All nice and well, Except it runs games worse then the Xbox, Costs a lot more, and performs other tasks at a snails place so don't count on turning it into a "turning it into a very high powered processing unit"

Not that I care who buys what, But at ths stage the Xbox is the better buy in every department.

511331 2007-01-08 06:13:00 Stupid question, I haven't driven a Lamborghini either but can safely say they are faster then the average car, So, whats your point? Metla (12)

511333 2007-01-08 23:38:00 In my opinion id say the ps3 will fail miserably because of delays in getting it here.

This has given xbox 360 a huge 3 to 4 month advantage to sell sell sell all consoles and games they can before ps3 is released in march.

Id say ps3 is sunk before it even gets here.
