| 511742 | 2007-01-02 03:24:00 | In DVD players, for a long time, the cheap brands had way better features than Sony, Philips etc. Is it the same with DVD hdd recorders? I think with Dvd Players alot of the cheaper models here were intended for the Asian markets so had features that were popular there (ie Karaoke etc). I personally will never go for a cheaper brand - even if they had better features because in most cases you get much better after sale service with the more well known brands. |

| 511743 | 2007-01-02 03:36:00 | That's blasphemy  Where can I get one . . . and how much does it cost? :p Ooooh, ain't that spooky, post #1234 for me and we're talking about 'The Force' (well, at least it wasn't post 666!) About $800 at Harvey Norman's . . . . and worth every cent! When you sit down to watch your first 3-hour recorded-from-TV movie, and you start jumping the ad's . . . . you'll see why . As for only working 80% of the time . . . . then you need more lessons from Obi Wan . . . . . it's a lot better than 80%! Prayer mats at the ready  T |

| 511747 | 2007-01-02 04:09:00 | 2007: Its time to dump your tapes and get a DVD recorder, but read this first or you might wind up with a  lemon of a recorder . While this is a user review for the Philips DVDR3455H recorder, it will also give you tips of what to look for when buying your DVD HD recorder . Excellent post and excellent thread, Steve . Thanks! Now, who can tell me whether these fancy gadgets are now clever enough to record the program captions/subtitles? Or would I still be torn over which of my favourite programs to miss when they are airing at the same time? |

AFAIK, they wont record two channels at once, however, because of The Force you can record TV whilst watching something already on the HD . Great if you wanna watch episode 3 whilst recording 4 at the same time . T PS: Captions/subtitles? No idea . . . . sorry Foxy . |

I wish I could remember :( Funny thing is, I lost my "old" one in a property settlement a month ago, and my new one doesn't yet function as required because I can't get the friggin' thing tuned in to my (new 42" Sony LCD  ) tv!!!!! Gotta pay some Einstein to come out and tune it all up for me.... .....and the remote is slightly different too....so gotta learn. It came with a instruction manual.....ppppffftttt!....who reads them??????? T |

Great if you wanna watch episode 3 whilst recording 4 at the same time . I don't want to record two channels at once . I want to watch one channel whilst recording the other, complete with captions . PS: Captions/subtitles? No idea . . . . sorry Foxy . Well try it and find out !!! :D Edit: Oops, I just read that you haven't got your gadget properly rigged up yet so you're not likely to be able to play guinea pig for me . Perhaps someone else will, though . :) |

| 511751 | 2007-01-02 04:29:00 | I would think you would need one with teletext support if you wanted to record the teletext subtitles - havnt seen one of those yet. AFAIK, they wont record two channels at once, however, because of The Force you can record TV whilst watching something already on the HD. Young one there is power in the force you dont yet know about, continue your training.....you can get Dvd recorders which have two tuners which will allow you to record two channels at the same time, i have seen these models overseas (and working with Windows Media Centre) but have not yet seen one here. |
