511882 2007-10-11 06:56:00 Ok Im sorry everyone, there was only one problem...... ME!

The Recorder was stuck between progressive scan and Interlaced. One push of the PS/IS button on the bottom left of the remote and hey presto! its all good!

I E-mailed the transonic service team an A very cool guy asked me a couple of questions. I mentiond the Half black half grey screen and he knew exactly what was wrong. Thanks anyway,
Vinnie.

Does the machine have the 3 min thing for the ads.?

511884 2007-10-15 01:00:00 And how do you go on if you want say fast forward for 20 mins,I find that difficult on my CD player. Cicero (40)
511885 2007-10-30 06:37:00 Can anyone recommend a TV capture card and software package that would let me store a buffer of several hours (of hopefully more than one channel) on a PC and do away with these infernal HD DVD recorders altogether? Greebly (11693)
511886 2007-10-31 23:02:00 I have a new Sony RDR-HX750 dvd hard drive recorder.

You can also fast forward in steps of between 30 secs, 1 minute, 2m, 3m, etc etc up to 2 hrs and longer. The skip advert trick works by evaluating changes in the actual program sound and video. Take something like Campbell Live or any news program, just before the advert there is an graphic and music of that particular program, and it comes on again just after the adverts and when the program starts again. Most programs have these graphics and music. The Sony DVD-R detects all this so the advert can be passed over. OK, its not perfect but usually I can get it with one press of the button, sometimes 2 or 3 presses, it seems to depend on those graphics and music that delineate start and end of the adverts. I read somewhere that Sony claims it can skip adverts 80% of the time and I agree or its even higher than that.

I assume you are skipping adverts on playback, is this correct? Or can it be set to remove adverts on recording?

I guess that adverts can be removed using the A-B erase prior to doing HDD To DVD thus saving some DVD space.

I have only had the 750 a couple of weeks so still experimenting.

Take a look at these two pages. It is dedicated to capturing Freeview channels.

I have a Hauppage HVR-4000 card and a PVR-350 but the software for the 4000 does not work for me, but with some info from these sites I have it up and running with open source MediaPortal server and client.

Currently picking up Analogue and all the NZ Freeview channels, plus radio.

The skip advert trick is used on playback. Sometimes it takes only one press of a button, maybe 2 or 3 presses - but its much quicker and accurate than using FFWD.

Yes, adverts can be removed using the A-B erase. Sometimes I do this before watching a program so there is no interruption, although there is great pleasure in hitting a button and seeing the advert disappear. :D

Glad to see you also have a '750'. Its a great tech toy. I'd recommend anyone to dump their old VHS tape recorders and get even the cheapest DVD recorder.

:waughh: Not sure why you find DVD recorders a pain. I have had a TV capture card in my pc for a few years and don't use it much at all even though it works perfectly - DVD recorder is easier and viewing on a tv screen is way better than my 17 in LCD pc screen.

Yes I do it all the time with MySky. It is hard to watch normal TV now and tolerate the adverts.
We tend to record what we like and watch it later even if we watch while it is recording. Starting to watch about 20 minutes after the program starts recording and zip through the adverts is great.
