511874 2007-10-06 11:30:00 Not sure you need "top end"....and 160GB is plenny coz you can always dub to DVD to free some space if you really wanna keep something.

Just make sure you can edit a recording to remove ad's etc. IMO the 2nd most important feature after not having to dick around with DVD's to record on.

I have a feeling not many on here have these units.!

511875 2007-10-09 17:40:00 Picked up a Warehouse special, only $215 for Transonic 80 Gb dvd recorder. Couldn't resist a bargain and tapes driving me crazy. I got an extended warranty for only 10% since this cheapie probably won't last. It works fine, as a previous poster said. Does everything I want it to, picture sharpness is great. Morpheus1 (186)
511876 2007-10-10 05:25:00 Hello!

First time on this forum, looks very cool.....
Browsed through this thread for some help with the Transonic 80GB DVD Recorder.

I just bought one today, read the instructions from cover to cover, plugged it in as per the instructions. But for the life of me I cannot see a dvd playing or even a screen with the set up menu! I thought I needed to "tune in" a TV Channel like you would a VCR. Can anyone Help? I have A Phillips Television.

511877 2007-10-10 08:21:00 Welcome to Press F1, VindicatorNZ.

Judging by the post above yours, Morpheus1 is the person you need.

Do you know that you could sent a PM (Private Message) through the forum system to draw it to that member's attention?.

I have sent Morpheus1 a message, I should have looked for the PM option as most forums have them.....opps.....

511879 2007-10-10 09:20:00 I've PM'd so hopefully Vindicator will sort things out. It has to either be the cable connections, the cables themselves, or the AV channel on the TV. There is nothing special about the Transonic DVD recorder, you set it up the same way as a VCR or another DVD recorder. I told Vindicator to come back here and post if there are still problems after following my PM instructions.

Still can't believe what a bargain it was to get. $215 is nothing for a DVD recorder, actually add $21.50 for the extended warranty. I and my friends have had so many CD and DVD units fail, even good brands, I doubt if this Transonic will last the warranty and they will give me a new model, 160 or 250 Gb, ha ha.

511880 2007-10-10 09:29:00 Yes, you need to connect it similar to a VCR. Recheck your cable connections and disconnect the VCR - plug the DVD-R in the same sockets as the VCR. When all is working OK, connect the VCR again.

Most TVs have two AV sockets and channels so try both.

If you still have problems, try another set of cables from the DVD-R to the TV, and if that does not work then post your problem to everyone on the forum, explaining exactly how you have connected everything.

Good luck and have fun with the DVD-R... it makes a VCR seem like the stoneage.

My VCR was not connected when I set it up following the instructions. I only found two cabbles in the box: The RF(video/aireal) and a Red/white/yellow AV cable. The DVD Recorder has no R/W/Y AV out put.(That I can ID)

Or I need to tune my AV channel to the Recorder which is plugged in with the RF cable.

When I try to tune in the DVD recorder on a unused channel, the TV cant find it.......

511881 2007-10-11 06:50:00 Ok Im sorry everyone, there was only one problem...... ME!

The Recorder was stuck between progressive scan and Interlaced. One push of the PS/IS button on the bottom left of the remote and hey presto! its all good!

I E-mailed the transonic service team an A very cool guy asked me a couple of questions. I mentiond the Half black half grey screen and he knew exactly what was wrong. Thanks anyway,
Vinnie.
