511862 2007-10-05 02:27:00 Unfortunately......my model doesn't have the A-B function.

I thought I was buying the same version as my old one which I lost when it became Relationship Property :p ....but it seems I got the model below it. Teach me to rush these things.

So editing isn't as easy as it was.

But they're still an awesome toy.

Are you sure? Seems strange it does not have the A-B erase edit feature.

From TITLES (recorded on the hd), press right button to get MODIFY then the options are listed as CHANGE TITLE NAME and also A-B EDIT.

Is the model you have the 720 ? BTW does it have gcode?

511863 2007-10-05 03:20:00 Foxy, the quality is superb. No degradation compared to the tape. There are 9 settings for quality / picture resolution. The default setting is 4th from the highest setting. Recordings from the TV made on the 5th and 6th settings are virtually the same and most people would not notice any difference between the 7th setting and the original TV picture. Viewed on a 29 in TV so if you have a 42 or 50 inch plasma/LCD screen then probably you will notice a difference when getting down to the 7th setting.

You won't go wrong getting a Sony RDR-HX750, and $575 is a good price. Most shops will let you do an exchange within a week or two but when I looked around the Sony was the best and remember it is HDMI capable.

Thanks for that, it sounds pretty good. Will have to put it on the shopping list along with a VCR player since ours has bitten the dust.

Being as it is fast coming up to Xmas the prices might start getting a bit more competitive. Or I could wait until Noel Leeming has its next Fly Buys specials. Better write it down though as last time I couldn't remember what it was that I wanted to buy.

Well, it kindof does. But compared to my earlier model, it's crap for ease of use.

Gcode? No idea. Never used it and never will.

Just checked....yes it does.

Not sure you need "top end"....and 160GB is plenny coz you can always dub to DVD to free some space if you really wanna keep something.

Just make sure you can edit a recording to remove ad's etc. IMO the 2nd most important feature after not having to dick around with DVD's to record on.

511869 2007-10-05 08:04:00 Intelligent scene chaptering is indeed the ad skipping feature. As someone said, it works out when there are significant changes to the broadcast and sets a chapter mark. Use the chapter advance button to skip the ads, but wait until the after the show promo finishes and the 1st ad starts. A-B erase is great - have removed lots of ads before burning to dvd. wotz (335)
511870 2007-10-05 23:04:00 Misty - do it! These things aren't gimmicks...you won't get tired of them.

Hi allblack
I never thought that they are gimmicks - We have a good friend and my son who have got them and get great use out of them. But you are right I do procrastinate !!

Anyway - have now ordered one and will have in a week's time ;)

A week??

You don't have any shops open in Auckland that aren't barricaded with roller doors and covered in graffiti?

I admire your patience...when I buy a toy I gotta have it yesterday!
