725172 2008-12-02 10:44:00 Where is the best place to shop for a new computer in NZ(best if it was chch). I know nothing about them and all I want it to do is to be able to get max FPS on SCII(starcraft2 for whoever is living under a rock.) I also want one that can be upgraded later :P. I'm prob coming off stupid lol. Xypher (14353)
725173 2008-12-02 18:18:00 IMO you should build your own. It's a lot cheaper, and can be upgraded later easily, as it doesn't use special parts that companies such as Dell and HP use.

If you need help with what you need etc, a computer shop in Christchurch may be able to help you. (I don't know what's there as I'm in Auckland. :p)

725176 2008-12-02 20:47:00 Give Nick a call at CBCNZ Custom Built Computers, hes based down Fitzgerald Ave in the old Pickwicks building (big yellow building near Kilmore street intersection)

Another guy Des (recommend him over Nick) can't remember the business, its web based but he works out of home in Chch. I will post the link tonight when I get home.

If you're building the computer for one particular game, I'd wait till the game comes out. Hardware will be cheaper, or you'll be able to get something faster for the same money.

725179 2008-12-02 22:00:00 Basically you have three choices:

1. Buy a brand-name from a retailer = Hardly Normal, Noel Leeming etc

2. Order a custom built or higher-end brand-name from a specialist computer business

3. Build your own.

Personally I think No 2 is the best option - then you have someone to shout at. :D The trick is to find a reliable person to deal with and this forum is the right place to ask.

Also don't try to chisel the cheapest deal. You may as well buy Dell. If you want ongoing support and a good relationship, respect the need of the guy you deal with to make a living.

725180 2008-12-02 23:12:00 I like ascent.co.nz
They are in Wellington but free delivery, you can get them to build it for you if you want and you choose the parts.

Pple on the forum can help you with the parts.
