514559 2007-01-11 00:19:00 Amazing that somebody can build a nuclear fusion reactor in their own back yard! I will put money on it that the kid will very quickly have a visit from men in white coats to close him down and remove said device.

I guess once the basics are established then there is no stopping how far this can be developed further and for what purpose.

514560 2007-01-11 08:49:00 Nuclear fusion is fairly simple to produce, it simply isn't economical for power generation. The hard thing is getting any energy surplus - current fusion reactors require more energy to keep them going than they can provide. We can already create massive explosive reactions (using fission to provide the initial power) but can't create a sustained reaction that gives more power than it consumes. TGoddard (7263)
