514036 2007-01-09 08:32:00 BTW: Elvis would be 72 y/o today...

Think, he could still be alive today, had he not already died. Was there any point in mentioning this? Definitely not.

514037 2007-01-09 16:45:00 Sure there was a point..I just saw it on the news as I was posting the other comment...

Just a slice-of-life comment, really...sorry to offend.

514038 2007-01-09 17:20:00 Those aren't what it's talking about . It's talking about plugging two computers into a standard USB hub and them both seeing and using the device plugged into the hub .

Edit: Wait . . . . . . you obviously understand that . I don't follow what you're talking about this time . . . ? The links look like a normal USB-USB network emulator thing .

I was just backing down from making a silly mistake . . . and rethinking this question .

I think that you could accomplish what you originally wanted, but then the possibility of needing that flipped USB cable reared it's head .

For the life of me, I don't see where it'd be necessary to use one if you just plug the USB hub into the root puter and use a dual male USB cable from the other puter to a port in the back of the hub .

From there, sharing the printer or pretty much any other USB device should be easy enough .

I have a Belkin Hub (F5U-021) that has safety devices installed to keep the smoke to manageable levels in your room .

If you get a mis-match, you'll know quickly . . and the hub will protect everything up- and downstream from that point . At that point, you should try the flipped USB cable .

. . . . although as I understand it, having all the lights on signifies that all the ports are operational and the hub accepts the USB device and will work with it .

If any of the port lights go out or start flashing that means that the port is either shorted out and needs the flipped USB cable or that it is being overloaded by a USB device that is being plugged into it .

Try it this way:

Unplug all USB devices from the hub and unplug the hub from the root computer .

Restart the computer .

Make sure you are using the power supply that came with the hub, rendering the hub dynamic powered . Once the computer is restarted plug in only the hub to the root computer .

Wait for all the lights to come on then you can start plugging in your USB devices one at a time making sure each one works before plugging in the next one, in your case, starting with the other computer .

I also suggest not running over 3 meters of USB cables on a powered hub . Deterioration of signal is very likely, although some units are reported to run 5 meters with little or no signal attenuation; voltage drop is usually the problem .

Using good, premium cables is a very good idea!

Always use the provided dynamic power supply to keep the load off the root PSU .

Another good test to make sure you are using USB 2 is to install something that requires USB 2 protocol, and if you don't get a warning balloon over near your clock, then you are running USB 2 and all is well . Fireflys and pendrives and their ilk will raise a complaint if they are put into the slower USB 1 slot .

Well worth posting SJ, reminds us all that the Incredible Bulk passed up on another 30 opportunities to die in the dunny in a puddle of piss.

He was never that great anyway, it was mostly hype and the legend has grown somewhat since his self-induced permanent retirement. Way to go!

Cynical? Moi?

There's been many better singers before and since.

Cheers

Billy . . . you and I oughtta hijack this thread all the way . . so . .

I agree with you . . he was a puss gut and a buffoon of a person . . . not even a great singer .

Good, but not great .

What he had was a certain sexuality . . although I never saw it . . . . not that way anyway .

He got used up and spit out by the forces that sucked him dry . . . again by the moguls in the world in charge of what we do and don't see .

Yeah . . sad . . . like Momma Cass and Belushi . . . . all DOA's from celebrity-hood; although, they had talent .

I just hope that original poster got a good answer

Whoa. I just realised how offensive that seemed. What I mean was "was there any point in me mentioning what I said in the previous sentence". Sorry!

For future reference, I don't say things like that, so if I do, you're reading it wrong :D

Oh and you're comment was interesting and not at all offensive. I was just thinking about if he was still alive today... Which makes no sense really ...
