514487 2007-01-12 17:51:00 but that's half the fun! playing that dangerous game of getting maximum performance without blowing things up (same for computers)

To finish first, first you have to finish. If I was under the hood tweaking my machine all day I wouldn't be getting much work done and paying any bills would I? That's what Apple coined the simple term " iCreate" because it is simple and it works. ;) NO tinkering required.

514488 2007-01-12 19:38:00 wait, "just works" after changing ram and keyboard and mouse.....:groan:

i'm no anti mac/pro windows fanboy here, but i'm not an idiot either. i wont pay extra for an item purely because it looks good/matches my desk/brings out the colour in my eyes. i look at the monitor, not the box!

both a pc and mac (and linux) "just work" once you've finished with them, just like how my cellphone "just works" after i've added all the swear words into the predictive libary.

and as a pc gamer i actually enjoy tinkering/upgrading my rig

and as for winmacguy's response to being a fanatic, well it sure sounded to me like either it was cut and paste from apple marketing, or he is infact buying with a brand bias....

budget choc chippies are the best (serious)

that's like me saying to you that you should be riding a GN250 because it does everything, you only brought the flasher bike because it look nicer and was made better. Why spend the xtra on a GSX250 when the GN250 does the same

514489 2007-01-12 20:39:00 Nuts, Were you all so unable to comprehend how to use a PC without killing it that after paying twice as much for something with half the capabilities you have to declare it godlike because you were able to make it work, just?

How is having to buy items you don't want (at a premium price), then sell them immediately and then fork out even more money to get the system you really wanted presented as a positive?

A quick look at the Mac store shows a terrible range of overpriced computers with locked hardware and software, Id call em ugly as sin, But that opinion would be subjective, So I'll just call em as wanky as an urban locked 4WD, with owners to match.

Just works?, who came up with that crap?

514490 2007-01-12 20:45:00 The point of that is that you just plug in and go . Everything you need is there and it all "just works" . No stuffing around required .

Pop over to your nearest Mac reseller and have play with one for a bit .

I have played around as you say with Macs .
Just works yeah, if you want to use it to do things it was set up to do . However try adding a new device to one .

Not .

514491 2007-01-12 20:48:00 LOL man you guys talk a lot of hot air . . . . . . . . . . .

Remember Fruit goes off eventually and without a doubt so will your Apple . . :p

So what theres a new flash little tinker toy coming to the market . How many other tinker toys are out there doing the same stuff already, for a cheaper price, which is actually already selling on the market . . . . . . . Apple and M$ are all hype, bells and whistles . Doesnt make them better or worse than the rest, just they seem to be slower at the marketing aspect, hype there products up and then they drop just as fast, and something else takes there place almost instantly . Other brands, company's get there stuff out and sold faster . They make the money and move on .
Technology doesnt stand still, so why do Apple and M$ take so long with their products? Sony does to i guess take time .

All good things come to those who wait dont they? :p
Nothing ever Just Works . . . . . . . . .

Just my opinion,

It took Apple 30 months to develop the iPhone, thats hardware and software from the ground up as well as working with a cell phone carrier.
In the case of Microsoft, Im not sure how long it took to develop the Xbox but I would imagine it was somewhare between 12 and 24 months or there abouts. That was also done from the ground up with both hardware and software.

As for "fruit going off eventually" if you mean the product- that will depend on how long you use it for before you replace or upgrade it. In terms of Apple's own product replacement cycle it can be anyware from 12 to 18 months which includes the introduction of newer refined models which are generally cheaper than the older spec models. That way of thinking goes all the way back to when Woz and Jobs first started out. Woz was always looking to refine and improve any electronic device that he made.

It took Apple 6 months to develop the original iPod from the prototype model demo'd to Steve by a guy called Tony Fadell who had previously worked at Philips Electronics devision as an engineer. Tony headed up the team that developed the iPhone and Jonathan Ive CBE (head of industrial design) contributed towards the sleek look and feel of the device.

I am curious as well, never had any problems adding a device.

514495 2007-01-12 21:43:00 Most off you younger people may like"new technology" and are able to adapt to it.
At my age I hate changes. I get used to something and know how to use it for my needs. So leave it alone.
This is probably why I detest things like cell phones, digital cameras, DVD's, and if I knew what an Ipod was I'rd probably hate it too. Ditto the iPhone.
I reckon I have XP sorted out and I will not be enticed into loading Vista.
I've even got the router sorted. So they had better not bring out anything to replace that.
