726455 2008-12-07 20:31:00 I have an old Compaq Desktop
I have replaced the CMOS battery but,
it still does not keep the date and time.

Is this an indication of a failing motherboard?

726456 2008-12-07 20:36:00 Are the Regional and Language Options settings set to NZ in Control Panel? FoxyMX (5)

726458 2008-12-07 20:42:00 Did you reconfigure the BIOS / set the date / time / year in the BIOS.

After you replaced the battery? Then save the settings, then reboot?

726460 2008-12-07 20:59:00 Maybe the battery you brought is flat?

Did you remove the CMOS jumper, or just set the BIOS to its default settings, then reconfigure the settings??

If you did remove the jumper, did you put it back in the right place?

726461 2008-12-07 21:08:00 Ok, I had thought of that but hypothetically (so we don't need to go back and forth):
If I replace the battery with another new one & the computer still doesn't retain the date & time, what am I looking at?

726462 2008-12-07 21:13:00 I doubt that the mobo is the prob, if the time was fine before you replaced the battery.

The battery is probably flat

726463 2008-12-07 21:17:00 When I got the computer the time wasn't being retained.
But that is ok.
I'll get another battery & give it a go.

Thank you - good day!

726464 2008-12-07 21:26:00 Hmm well it maybe the mobo then if it never kept the time.

Unless a BIOS update will fix that
