What type of 500gb hard drive can I install?
So many [apparently] different types to choose from!
Your advice would be appreciated.

725975 2008-12-05 04:04:00 Seagate will probably be better and last longer than most

Hopefully the system knows what a 500gb hdd is

725976 2008-12-05 04:06:00 go to elive in my sig, then hard drives, then standard(IDE ATA), theres a whole heap of IDE drives on offer.

you may have to update you mobo's bios otherwise it wont recognise such a huge drive.

cheers

725977 2008-12-05 04:06:00 Any IDE hard drive will be fine. Seagate is generally the recommended brand, with a 5 year warranty, the highest production rates and lowest failure rates of any hard drive manufacturer.

Your motherbord shouldn't have any issues seeing that size HDD, it's not too ancient.

725978 2008-12-05 04:31:00 You can probably add a card and put in a Sata Hard Drive (Seagate of course).

You can get PCI and PCi-E cards depending on your motherboard's slots.
You can get cards with 1,2,4 Sata or more or a combination of IDE/Sata.
At least you will be able to use the Sata HDD's on your next PC if it is not too many years away.

I doubt a four-year-old PC would have PCI-e. :)

If you do this, you might also need sata power adapters, as your PSU probably only has hdd power connectors for ide drives.
