516027 2007-01-28 05:59:00 About 10.30pm last night there was so many cars driving around the south coast of Wellington I assumed there must have been a tsunami warning.
But I was wrong, they were full of people who had read in the Dom. Post that it would be a good night for viewing the comet.
Unfortunately the sky was a little hazy and they were driving too fast. If they had bothered to stop and had a good look they might have seen it but I suspect they were all following the car in front assuming that was going to a better vantage point.

516029 2007-01-29 22:27:00 Comet McNaught is now visible in the morning sky before sunrise from the northern latitudes of NZ and if you live down about Queenstown Latitude it is visible all night long. See images on http://www.spaceweather.com/

516030 2007-01-29 23:04:00 I don't believe it exists. If it was a bright comet it would shine through the clouds. :D I bet the Tunguska one would have been visible. Graham L (2)
516031 2007-01-31 04:37:00 We were at Castlepoint for a several days (on the coast east of Masterton) and saw the comet Monday night. But it was far diminished from what I saw on that rural road two weeks ago. With a good pair of binoculars my wife was impressed, not having seen it previously.

Using Trev's link, this is a fantasic photo of the comet:

Comet McNaught is now a circumpolar object over New Zealand--"we can see the comet all night long," says Minoru Yoneto of Queenstown, NZ, who took advantage of the extra observing time to make a spectacular 5-minute exposure of the comet...

The spectacular view that I saw two weeks ago was similar to this:

....or this one....

...but without the city lights, so you can imagine why I nearly drove off the road!

Has anyone seen it early in the morning, recently?
