515987 2007-01-19 09:03:00 You won't see it in the morning as it well be on the wrong side of the sun ie rising after the sun is up. I have just seen it tonight from Napier 9-30pm before it went behind the clouds. It was higher than I expected above the horizon. To the naked eye it appears as a brightish long streak, but with my 7x50 binoculars you can see the comet itself.

Curently it can be viewed in the morning as well as evening.

515993 2007-01-19 18:51:00 Wow! As I was driving home last night I almost drove off the road when I saw McNaught. It is much better than Haley's Comet. I can see why some people thought it was an airplane or satellite burning up. I actually stopped the car in the middle of the road (rural, Mt Holdsworth area) to see it. On the way into Masterton I could see it clearly in the rear view mirror. Amazing.

Either Daniel's camera was at fault or the time and place for me was different, but those photos do not portray McNaught correctly - it was much bigger and brighter for me.

BTW the time was 10 pm.

515994 2007-01-19 19:29:00 I saw the comet, in the middle of Papakura, but before Mum could get a photo, it disappeared behind a cloud. :( pcuser42 (130)

I think by 10pm it would of almost been on the horizon or below it . Yes Dan's photo's show it about right apart from the movement of the camera . I would suggest Dan that you use a tripod so you don't get any camera movement and also try differant shutter speends up to 1/30 th of a second, any more than that you well pick up the movement of the earth .

The other reason it may appear brighter to you Steve is that you were in the country while we have to contend with city lights . And if it was the comet you saw it would of been on the south western horizon .

Geez Chrisn, nice photos but next time please shrink them down a bit or at least post an indication of the size of them . Some poor souls are still on dialup you know . :waughh: :p

It is still cloudy down here so it looks like I'm never going to get a peek at this comet . :(
