516546 2007-01-17 05:38:00 That is probably all the forced downloads from the Microsoft Mothership to its vast user base. I thought it was all about "choice" mmmaybe not.

It IS about choice. Downloads are not forced on me. I CHOOSE to install downloads I want.

I CHOOSE to use IE7. I also CHOOSE to use a PC rather than a MAC.

I DON'T have a problem with my choices.

You should not have a problem with my choices either. After all, MY choice does not affect you in any way whatsoever does it?

If, on the other hand, I CHOSE to drive on the right hand side of the road I could understand you ( and heaps of other road users ) having the right to explain that this would be an unwise move and rightly so!

516547 2007-01-17 06:25:00 I think MS is just a wee bit more sneaky with their downloads there Sweep. Also the fact that IE is not actually part of Windows but you still can't uninstall it like you can with any other browser out there. I am happy that you are happy with your choice of computer too Sweep. winmacguy (3367)
516548 2007-01-17 07:14:00 winmacguy, afraid not, according to this article, "Microsoft announced Friday it has hit the 100 million installation milestone for Internet Explorer 7, a figure that makes the new browser the second most used behind IE6."

Are people so undiscerning as to use the MS monstrosity rather than Firefox/Opera?
There is no way of knowing how many of each browser is being used as you can have your browser lie as to what it is and definately the so called download number from MS means very little as it is a forced upgrade in most cases.

516549 2007-01-17 07:27:00 Why trash something that has never been rubbish...

Ive never once had a problem with any IE series of internet browser. Tell you what though, get damn sick of the firefocks fanboys harping on about how great it supposed to be.

well how bout you try it first? IE7 is just a poor copy of FF1.6 (it really is, what does it have as "new features" that FF doesn't?)

if you don't touch auto updates it "just works" and dowloads/installs all widows updates as the become available. some of us less sheep-like windows users (or those with pirated versions) tend to disable, of adjust auto update to notify when new updates are available so you can choose what you want.

so it's sneaky if you have no idea of what your pc is doing (ie those who call the case the cpu, and think 'gaming' is soley java based)

I am very happy for you Jams but why did you even bother to install Firefox 2 if you weren't going to touch it.
