517179 2007-01-18 18:14:00 how would that prevent spyware?

By not allowing it to install itself on the machine, same for trojans and other malware.

517180 2007-01-18 20:25:00 huh, i have my pc - and in the 10 months ive had it - ive never had trouble with viruses or spyware - all i run is avg and keep it updated along with Ad-aware and Spybot - all updated - the worst infection ive got was when gator decided to make itself at home and after a scan in safe mode - all is back to as it should be - all people need to do is be educated about spyware and viruses and there would be no need for formats and re loads of XP - and switching to a mac is just ridiculous - the price involved getting a mac to avoid a spyware\virus problem that doesn't really exist if you know what you're doing is just plain lazy :yuck: MAC_H8ER (5897)
517181 2007-01-18 20:59:00 Holden or Ford?

Also, if I've got NOD32, do I need Spybot and Ad-Ware too?

517182 2007-01-18 21:34:00 Holden :D - although since they spent 1 Billion Dollars + on the new commodore - looks like they couldn't afford to make any decent screen savers or put more then 1 wallpaper of each car on the HSV.com.au site - i was slightly disappointed when i went there last night :horrified MAC_H8ER (5897)

Yes, NOD32 is an antivirus program - not antispyware.

Comprehensive Protection
Running separate applications for viruses, hackers, adware, and spyware can slow your PC, be difficult to manage, and provide questionable protection. Beware of large, bloated internet security suites that consume hundreds of megabytes on your PC. These typically exist because vendors have acquired products and 'bundled' them together. In contrast, ESET NOD32 was designed from the core as a single, highly-optimized engine that works as a unified Anti-Threat system to protect against a broad spectrum of malware. Viruses, worms, spyware, and other malicious attacks, which are constantly evolving. ESET NOD32 utilizes patent-pending ThreatSense® Technology to detect tomorrow's threats in real-time, by analyzing code execution for malicious intent - keeping you ahead of the malware-writers.

It is primarily an antivirus program. The antispyware component is actually pretty good, but not quite as good as spybot yet.

517187 2007-01-19 02:46:00 I have NOD32 myself.

And Counterspy.
And AdAware.
And SPybot.
And Hijackthis.
And RegDefend.
And so on......

I have also scanned infested PCs with all of the above, while NOD32 is excellent for viruses, you do need other progrmas for antispyware as well.
