726601 2008-12-08 05:14:00 Can anyone please tell me how to get access to my "Local Settings" folder on my Vista notebook. When I try through explorer, Users/Peter/Local Settings I get a message saying that the "path is not accessible - Access is denied".

I am signed on as an administrator and I have tried with both UAC on and off.

I am sure that I have been in before but it's Monday and I had a hard weekend - brain in no-go mode....

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers.

726602 2008-12-08 05:37:00 Try Logging into the computer as the administrator / Start in safe mode - With Vista, even though your account may have administrator rights, it doesn't always allow full administrator access.

As you said its Monday - I'm not to sure if you right click the folder if it will come up and allow you to run as administrator - I know it does fro programs - but not in front of Vista at the Mo.

You can also try the "Take Ownership" option - Details Here (www.howtogeek.com)

726603 2008-12-08 05:39:00 I've read on a few sites, whatever you do, DON'T change the permissions on any folders. Or you may lock yourself out of windows, if youre not careful Speedy Gonzales (78)

726605 2008-12-08 06:20:00 Thanks wainuitech, although I couldn't log on as Administrator or get access in Safe Mode.

After sculling a Heinekin, I had the insight to look on the Vista Help page at Microsoft and found this article for those that need:

forums.microsoft.com

The revealing post of the thread is from Bondi Beach on 3/2/08 where he mentions that because of the different system structure that Vista uses as opposed to XP, the actual folder I want is residing elsewhere and when the correct path is known, there is no problem accessing.

Problem solved - another Heineken required in celebration :drool

Thanks.

726606 2008-12-08 09:00:00 What I did-was I took ownership of the folder(you can do it in cmd but I've added it to my context menu) and it worked

I can post instructions/links here if you want them
