726665 2008-12-08 04:41:00 How much RAM does your computer have? Check this under Control Panel > System > General tab.

How much free space does your C drive have? Check this under My Computer by right-clicking on the C drive and selecting properties.

What operating system are you using?

726667 2008-12-08 05:04:00 Get more ram, or a bigger hdd. Or both Speedy Gonzales (78)
726668 2008-12-08 05:06:00 A little more ram Another 512 meg would help.
Basicly xp is managing want is known as paging file or virtual memory. It is a reserved hunk of space on your hard drive which is used to store/swap out program instructions and that message is informative, saying basiicly I'm going to make this bigger because its getting a full.

In my opinion Xp manages virtual memory well but a bit more RAM will help keep the paging file size down

726670 2008-12-08 05:28:00 Hmm, whats the brand/model?

It shouldn't be too hard to add more ram (if it can take more than 512mb)

Altho, getting a bigger hdd maybe expensive

726672 2008-12-08 05:39:00 You could try doing a spring clean first to make more room. You can download CCleaner (free) (www.ccleaner.com) or use XPs disk cleanup utility to delete temporary files.

If your system is stable, you can also delete all but the very last System Restore point. You do this by going Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. Click on the more options tab to see the System Restore option.

Did you have many programs open at the same time when you saw the virtual memory message?

726673 2008-12-08 05:53:00 Ive removed all but the last system restore point.

I guess there was email, IE, Firefox, MSN and a few others open in system tray.

Can I slide sideways too Jen?

How do I know what to remove from the start up rubbish .. theres heaps of stuff there I have no idea what they are for.
