Hehe, its "start a Vista thread" day.

Nothing really new in this link, it is not a bad read to enforce what most of us already know even if it is only Toms. They do use the RTM (Release to Manufacture) version of Vista which is the final version of course. ATI drivers are currently suffering more than Nvidia, mind due they both suck :P

Personally, I do not recommend ONLY use Vista for at "least" the next six months.

I would however like to point out all these performance issues happened with XP and probably worse from a gaming point of view, as so many Win 9x games would not run on XP at all at time of release.

Flame vista here :) read GO!

In its current state Vista is too unstable at least from a graphics perspective and cumbersome in a number of ways to be attractive to gamers and even professional consumers. I'm not too keen on some of the networking issues I had to deal with in transferring stored performance data and getting the test system ready.

Part of the reason it sucks is all the rubbish Vista is doing in the background, thus taking resources away from the game.

However because of DX10 (note they go on about Crysis again), we will be stuck with the damn thing.
Hopefully by then there will be lots of tweaks and removals we can do to kill off some of the interference.

517190 2007-01-18 05:18:00 Actually it would make more sense to do it in your other post regarding the OEM cost of Vista. If you really want to get a cheap copy of a system that you don't need just tell Microsoft that your converting your whole office over to Linux, Google and OpenOffice and wait for them to start talking big discounts. winmacguy (3367)

517196 2007-01-19 13:18:00 FPS DOUG is made of win and pwn.

bare in mind that you will get gamers crying about vista saying "it doesnt work" boo...becuase they will be trying to run it on hardware that is sub par.

i have had known of fellow gamers that were pwning up large on counter strike source on the Beta.... and were seeing no real difference with that of XP.

517197 2007-01-19 21:31:00 The original drivers that come WITH Vista work surprisingly well! I was able to run UT2k4 on my 128MB Agp8x nVidia Ti4200 at 1024x768 quite well with detail levels at the default normal.
I suffered the same problem, in both 32-bit RC2 and the RTM, trying to install Drivers for the card. It *appeared* to have installed but wasnt using them. 64-bit just didnt wanna know about the drivers at all, even after hacking up the driver files for hours on end...

Then theres the next question:
Why bother with 64-bit anyways? Everything else run is 32-bit in windows, makes little sense... the OS might be 64-bit but the office suite isnt, the games arent..

The basic stuff was alright, but the support was pathetic. Worse than any other OS.. Windows or linux...!
