| 727242 | 2008-12-10 00:38:00 | Hi All Brother-in Law has just installed a new 500gb HDD in a fairly newish (about a year) Comp. When install of XP is complete C: in `My computer` only shows as 131062mb. Am sure I have seen this problem before somewhere but can`t find it in the archives. Probably not got the wording right. Can some-one put me straight on this prob? Cheers: |

| 727243 | 2008-12-10 00:41:00 | Have you got Windows XP SP2 installed? | jwil1 (65) | ||

| 727245 | 2008-12-10 01:47:00 | You might need XP SP2. I think it adds 48bit LBA, to support hard drives larger than 128gb. You also might need to enable it in the bios (if needed) | utopian201 (6245) | ||
| 727246 | 2008-12-10 06:25:00 | He installed the new drive, SP2 & SP3 here then took the computer home. Waiting to hear the results of the suggestions here.He will be monitoring this thread though he`s not a member as yet. SP1 & SP2 were both installed from separate CDs` Thanks for the help so far. Will advise how things pan out. Cheers: |
