727150 2008-12-09 14:51:00 Hello,
I constantly see on the little sound icon the setting switch from mute to non-mute all by itself. When I go to the control panel and unclick Mute, a few sec later it changes between setting again.

What's going on? this can't be a virus or trojan right? I look after my pc so well, I thought :horrified

I have XP Pro.

It could be. What anti-virus program are you running? Give Trojan Remover (www.simplysup.com) a whirl and post a HijackThis log here for inspection.

727152 2008-12-09 19:26:00 Do you have a laptop or desktop? I've seen an HP with those touch sensitive volume controls do this, was getting it's wires crossed somehow. wratterus (105)
727153 2008-12-09 19:38:00 Have you got a multimedia keyboard and something resting on the Mute button? jwil1 (65)
727154 2008-12-10 05:38:00 @Foxy, cheers, I'll give it a go.

@Wterrus, I have a desktop

@wil1, I think it's a multimedia keyboard, dunno for sure, just a standard Logitech kb. What do you mean with resting on the mute button?

727155 2008-12-10 06:08:00 Some keyboards such as multimedia ones have media control buttons on them such as volume, mute, play, next track etc gary67 (56)
727156 2008-12-10 06:13:00 Oh right, no, that's not the case I think.

@Foxy, I'm running ClaminWin Anti-Virus, and my trial copy of TrojanRemover has expired, is there another free program that I can use?

727157 2008-12-10 06:31:00 Down HijackThis and copy/paste the logfile here for further analysis.
Download and update MalwareBytes Anti Malware.
