726745 2008-12-08 20:11:00 Hi Gurus

I just installed 2 1 gb sticks of ram in my PC and in system properties it is only showing as 1.43gb.

My Laptop is an acer5002wlmi and the ram is pretty old stuff now at PC2700 333mhz. I am using windows xp home.

Does this mean it is actually only able to utilize 1.43gb or just that it is reading the capacity wrongly.
Is there a benchmarking tool for this?

Thanks
Steve

726746 2008-12-08 20:14:00 It'd use a small amount of ram (if there's onboard video), it'll use system memory for it. And loading whatever is in startup

So, if the onboard video is 256 /512 mb, then it'll take it from the installed ram

726747 2008-12-08 20:15:00 Could be the graphics sucking some of it - but not 500 + Mb

Was the old RAM reading the correct amount?

726748 2008-12-08 20:18:00 Yeah I had done an older upgrade from 512mb 2x256 and installed a 512mb and it was reading correctly at 768 before this upgrade.

There is onboard graphics. I think 256 is allocated as shared. Is there any way to make sure?

726750 2008-12-08 20:28:00 is the gfx card nvidia or ati? GameJunkie (72)
726751 2008-12-08 20:53:00 Its even older than I thought! Definately time for an upgrade.
I checked the bios and it has 64 mb video memory which is shared. It is an sis chip.
It reports 1470 mb extended memory and 640kb system memory.
Its a dinosaur
