518998 2007-01-24 21:05:00 To you audio buffs out there – a very basic help please.
Having problem getting a speaker going in my garage workshop – just a DSE outside one through a volume control unit that picked up somewhere. This volume unit has 3 terminals numbered 1 to 3. What is the wiring from the amp to this and then to the speaker?!
Many thanks

518999 2007-01-24 22:35:00 Amp to 1 & 3, speaker to 2 & 3. I assume it is a simple resistive rotary control (wire-wound potentiometer), if so it may work in reverse because I dont know if 1 or 3 is the ground. If it is reversed, just put the speaker to 1 & 2 instead.

It will have a power rating, so don't wind the wick up too far or it will overheat. Set the remote to full volume, then set the amp volume for the max you want at the remote location, then back off the remote control to get the volume down to what you normally need. That will give you headroom for quiet tracks without risking burning up the control, which would probably stuff the amp.

If you only have three terminals it will be mono as well, so connect it across only one channel of the amp then press the mono button so that you get the sound from both channels.
