518384 2007-01-22 19:14:00 Hi,

Just want any info on the best torrent program to use?

i tried Utorrent yesterday, but the downloads were so slow (2-5KB!)

anyone any recommendations?

518385 2007-01-22 19:49:00 The download speed won't have anything to do with the torrent software you use. I use uTorrent now, having tried a lot of others, and find it is the best.

Have you opened up a port in your router to allow other torrent uses to connect to you?

518386 2007-01-22 20:22:00 Your downloads are slow because it's an unpopular torrent with perhaps only one seeder, or because your ISP is heavily port shaping it (that is, slowing down P2P traffic to give priority to web surfers). The Go Large plan is an example. george12 (7)
518387 2007-01-22 21:26:00 Agreed. I've tried all sorts too and have settled for µTorrent as it's VERY simple to use. Some torrents have come down within hours, others take weeks... just depends on what yer after and who's got it IRMoon (11746)
518388 2007-01-22 21:29:00 i can get up to and over 350KB/s on national torrents, and im on Go Large. :D international, however, i can only get about ~30KB/sec. stephen (9719)
518389 2007-01-22 22:11:00 The Go Large plan is an EXTREMELY GOOD example.
Corrected! :p

518390 2007-01-23 04:17:00 Yeah uTorrent ftw. Public trackers ftl. roddy_boy (4115)
518391 2007-01-23 05:50:00 My sister was downloading a start trek episode a few days ago using utorrent & wasn't even getting 2 k/s. Her boyfriend tried downloading the same torrent with bitlord on his computer (using Internet Connection Sharing to connect through my sister's computer. Woosh :yuck:) & he was getting 5 - 10 k/s. Still a crap speed, but you have to expect that from a public tracker.

I expected his computer to be worse than my sister's since my sister has a direct connection & he is using ICS. The only thing I could think of is the different torrent program.

518392 2007-01-23 06:17:00 The software does not matter, it is just a client. It all refers to the "Bit Torrent core software" or whatever that means.....

I found that for diff client softwares, its what you like. Some sites where you get the trackers may be only workable with some clients and not others.

For the speed, yeah if its dialup or Go Large or any other unlimited usage BB packages, then that is how good its gonna get unfortunately even if you try every single client out there. If you don't have these I would enable port forwarding. Choose your router and then your software here .. step by step instructions ....

518393 2007-01-23 06:41:00 I use either utorrent or azureus. Mostly utorrent now. Dammit, just waiting for the fifth episode of 24 season 6, but it's not out yet....:( qazwsxokmijn (102)
