| 518065 | 2007-01-21 20:48:00 | A mate and I, decided to go for a half day ride yesterday, From wellington through palmy north and over the paiatua track. Got to Featherston about 1.30 which is 20 minutes from home only to be told of a fatality on the rimatakas.The hill won't be open for another 5-6 hours. So far the weather has been stinking hot. Woo Hoo all day ride with a good excuse to tell the wifes. get back to ekatahuna where it started raining and didn't stop till we ggot back to plimerton. All up 600km, could have gone to taupo to watch the A1gp instead. The funny thing is if we didn't stop at the pub in greytown for a couple of beers we would have missed the accident. and been home by 1ish:D | plod (107) | ||
| 518066 | 2007-01-22 00:15:00 | Went over to the airshow and came across the accident before they closed the road. It was a BIG truck, not one you would like to meet on your side of the road. I took my motorbicycle as I expected the traffic jam. I was not wrong. Road was finally opened around 10:00pm. Most unfortunate incident. |

| 518071 | 2007-01-22 22:40:00 | Up to palmy? There is a crossing that comes out near levin, Could have knocked hours off your trip. The only way to cross near Levin is to tramp over the ranges. The shortest way is turn through Mangamaire and over the Pahiatua Track and through Shannon, coming out at Levin onto the main road. This is what you were probably thinking of. It would save about 25km over the route through the Gorge and via Aokautere (which has just reopened on the weekend after the bridge was further undermined). :2cents: |
